SOLUTION- Installing Sonic Cell Vista drivers in Windows 7 3

Post by javaj_ »

Hi all,
I finally got a little help from Roland Canada.
The Vista drivers WILL work in Windows 7 and here is how
Download the driver of choice (either 32 or 64 bit)
Make sure you un-archive the file onto your drive (don't try installing from
within the archive file).
Go to the setup.exe file
Right Click
Click on "Troubleshoot compatability"
Select "The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or
run now"
Click Next
Select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)"
Click Next

You will then see the final dialogue box
"Test compatability settings for the program"
Click on "Start the program..."
and you can now install the driver (make sure the SC is not connected until it
tells you to.

Thusfar it works like a charm.

Hi javaj,

Tried installing the 32 bit Vista driver with the Vista Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, but I still get the USB device not recognized error as reported previously:
http://forums.rolandclan.com/?action=show_thread&thread...

Also tried the just plain Vista compatibility mode (no Service Pack 2) -- same problem.

Also tried the Recommended Settings (I think it chose XP). The install didn't even run.

Maybe it is just the USB cable, but the same cable works for other devices I have.

The web cam did get installed early on when I was setting up Windows 7, but I'm out of time to try anything else. Have some other stuff to do that will occupy my time 100% for two weeks.

Cheers,
Craig

Arrrrrrgh! I don't believe it -- I switched to a different USB cable and the device driver was able to recognize the device. Your first suggestion (change the cable) was correct. So, the 32-bit Vista driver now is working in Vista compatibility mode (no Service Pack 2 specified). Tried it with the Sonic Editor and it detects the device OK and interacts with it, though not perfectly. It got some sort of read error trying to download data from the Sonic Cell device. Adjusting some parameters on the panel it also had some device disconnect complaints, but maybe I need to read the docs before using the editor.

Cheers, and thanks for your help, javaj.

Yes, I get thoses errors on the editor whenever I have my X-station connected (it appears you can use 2 USB midi devices at once with the Sonic Cell- at least for the editor).
BUT- sadly- even though I got my Sonic Cell to work- doing the upgrade to Windows 7 took out my wireless stability- so much so- I did the unthinkkable- Art will love this- I went to Best Buy to try to buy a wireless nic that had Win 7 support (none of them did) and walked out with an iMac.
So, I am giving up on Windows- tired of wasting my creative juices on tinkering to make my system work.

Since Roland has released Win 7 drivers for the Sonic Cell- this thread can be removed from it's stickyness.
