Midi file to play soniccell + external synth?

The manual says "You can't use the SMF/Audio File Player to play songs while also using USB audio/MIDI message input/output". So does this mean that you can't pass a midi channel through to an external synth to play along with the soniccell? If not, does anyone know how I should configure the System Settings so I could e.g. set channel 16 to do this?

Javaj in the "Sysex transmitted from smf" thread says: I believe this has been asked before- if a midi file, played from the SC's USB port, can output to the midi out (I believe so- you just have to echo it out- can't remember the settings).
[edit] change the Soft Through to ON in the System settings menu- see page 180 of the manual- see if that works.
Then in the soniccell editor I've disabled rcv midi in the Perform Midi Setting Page (I'm sequencing in Fruity Loops and running the editor as a standalone).
Seems to be working so far, just not quite sure what;s going to happen when I save the song as a smf.
