Midi out to other units when playing SMF's, get nothing?

I'm trying to play SMF's from the SC and use the midi out to send song info to a separate drum module & a JV-1080 (for Bass & other sounds) to get a mix of sounds I can adjust live. I cannot get any midi info from the midi output of the SC. The JV-1080 doesn't show any midi info coming in. Also tried an Alesis SR-16, & DM Pro. I get nothing?
Help please. Thanks.

I just purchased this so I'm really trying to learn this quickly. Anyhow I updated the SC from version 1.04 to 1.20. Now I have midi information flowing into the JV-1080. Now just trying to figure out how to control which sounds come out of which device. Pretty cool unit so far. Thanks.

A very easy way will be to assign different MIDI channels to the different Parts you want to play on each of the modules.
What keyboard controller are you using ?

Thanks for the reply.

Well it could be various things. Possibly my VG-99 or my Fantom-S.

It would help to give a little history. We use midi files for some songs in my bands performances. I've used the Fantom-s for years for this function. I've gotton quite decent at programming songs for the Fantom-S.

What has become a problem is some of the buttons on the Fantom-s are failing to work after years of use. That is not a good thing when trying to pull up a song at a gig. Hence, since the Sonic cell plays SMF files, and also has a set list editor, I figure it is a good solution for me since very little keys acutally get played live.

I've tried using computer programs such as sonar to try to make my songs, but I waste too much time because I don't know what I'm doing. I'm much more efficient on the Fantom-s.

In congunction now I have this acoustic side project pop up, tought it would be nice to have a couple other modules hooked up for flexability of mixing drum, bass, & key parts separately.

Thanks.

Wow, I've got to be having a mental block or this is more difficult that I expected. Is there anything that will easily playback my Fantom-s SVQ files without much effort. The buttons are so bad on my Fantom-S I can't get into the songs to see what I did in each performance. When I play them back as SMF's they are a complete disaster.

The SMF's from the FanS are set to the patches in the FanS so you could try ...
1) The Midi output from the SC will output the data from the SFM so you could use the SC to drive your FanS and just have the sound of the FanS coming though. This should be just like playing the FanS songs.

or
2) You need to set up a performance on the SC to match the patches on the FanS SMF songs. If you find that there are Patch changes in the song or at the start of the song in the SMF you can turn off the Patch change for each part in the SC editor - PERFORMANCE - PERFORM / MIDI / RCV PC.

The problem with the patch changes in the FanS SMF is that they might include bank select messages.
If they don't you could set up a user bank with similar patches to the ones in the songs in the sames places as on the FanS.

Much quicker to load up the SMF into Sonar.
Change the output on each track to the SC.
Select the patch for each track fits the best. Now this is a SC patch with correct bank select.
Save the new midi file and load that into the SC.

That sounds like logical & great advice, I will give it a try. Thanks. Tom
