advice needed

Post by eliwwjd777 »

Hi to all the members on the forum. Maybe you guys could help me out on this. I've been looking to buy a new instrument for a while. My first option was the g7 but then
i decided to change because I'm more of a stage piano guy.
I'm not sure what to get, RD700gx or 300gx or kurzweil pc3x?
What I like about the 300gx is the weight, 36 lbs.!!! but no expansion bay, would have to get a sonic cell to take advantage of the srx cards.
1st option:
rd700gx with srx 2,5,11 and 12
2nd option:
rd300gx/sonic cell with srx cards 2,5,11 and 12
3rd option:
Kurzweil pc3x
What do you think guys?
Could anybody also tell me if these expansion cards are worth buying with these stage pianos?anybody had experience with them?
Any sound difference between 700 and 300?because I noticed that the 700 has more wave memory dedicated.

Very important, this instrument is not for gigs, is for church purpose. I would love to take it back and forth but weight worries me!! Any suggestions or comments would be gladly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!!

I bought the RD700GX as soon as it came out a few years ago and its great

First of all- it has room for 2 expansion boards not 4

I believe the 700 has the piano weighed keys and the 300 is semi weighed

To me, having the weighed keys is a must for piano

I faintly recall the 700 has 1 more piano sample vs the 300

Why don't you go to the Roland web site and d/l both manuals, and compare the patch lists

I can't help you on the PC3X. Why don't you go to Musicplayer since this model was heavily discussed there

the 300gx does not have the expressive grand piano if that helps.

Hi Eliwwjd777,
From the Roland US website I've made this comparison table, that may help you.

The two boards are really different regarding features... The 700 is really the ONE (at least I was looking for a new Stage Piano board!!!

The Option RD300GX and a SonicCell will be a fine one too and will provide more SRX expansion slots, but... eveything depends on what you want to do.

I hope this helps

Hey! Great, PauloF!

For those of you who may not have Excel, I have taken to liberty to convert Paulo's chart to a jpeg image.

As for this question - I believe that it has been answered! :>)

Thanks, again!

Thank you very much for all the answers. I had a chance to try the pc3x this weekend but it didn't impress me that much.I guess i'm not a kurzweil fan after all!!
How are the sounds on the expansion boards 2,5,11 & 12, compared to the sounds that do come in the 700GX?
Any opinions gladly appreciated.Thanks

if you buy the RD700GX , pull out SRX11

that is already on board the 700

You definitely will not like SRX02, either ( concert piano). This is a very old compressed rom piano.

SRX05 is Dance. I believe that is dated

I had SRX12 (EP's) and felt it added little to the party. I sold it

So sorry

And by the way...the 700GX only has 2 SRX slots...

If I was you I would choose some SRXs that would bring some value and diversity to the whole board.

I would (definetely) choose SRX07 and SRX03 or SRX04

Take care
PauloF

P.S: Piaknowguy, thanks for converting the Excel table into a JPG. I should have thought about that myself... snifff

Thanks guys. The 700 is my final decision.
Hey Greg C I noticed that there are only six sounds from the srx-11 on the 700, you still got more sounds on the srx-11 not included in the 700. Paulo F thanks also for your input
I'll be going with the SRX-7, 11(to take advantage of xtra sounds) and maybe 2 although GregC what is it with the 2, you didn't like?
I'm a pianist, and I thought maybe this was a good board.
Like I mentioned to you guys, the only thing that has my mind worried is the weight fact. I would love to take it home after church and keep on playing and composing at home, especially the first days.
I guess I'm gonna have to buy a hand truck. What do you think?

look at the patch list again

The Rd700GX has 26 Acoustic Piano patches

The SRX 11 has 26 Acoustic piano patches- for the RD series/MC/VR/G-70, E 80

Roland renames the patches which is very confusing.

The both have the same acoustic piano rom or the same AP samples

Hey Greg C what is it with the srx2 you didn't like?
Do you think a hand truck would be fine to carry this stage piano?

"you definitely will not like SRX02, either ( concert piano). This is an older SRX compressed rom piano for the Rd700 ( about 5 yrs old)."

I would get a hard shell case if you are moving it around alot
