Download & Share User Setup Files ?!

Post by picicio »

Hi Guys,

does anybody know a good link where you download and share user setup files for RD-700GX?

I would love to hear some different sounds and also I want to share mine for which I work for weeks now. Espacially I am looking for some good, cut-thru-the-mix-organ sounds.
Probably we can start sharing sounds on this platform???

Thanks

The idea is basically good. But thanks to Roland, I don't see how we could share setups because you can only load the whole setup file (all 100) at once. Maybe I find a couple of good sounds, but I don't want to overwrite all of my own setups.

Robert (bobmusic)
do you know the start address and # of bytes for each of the 100 setups?

or does the SysEx Librarian have them inbuilt for the RD.
I don't have a MAC to run the program.

Thanks

It would be great if Roland developed a dedicated patch editor for the 700gx.

Very true about an editor.. AFAIK at the moment you cannot make different patches which use the same set of samples e.g. different variations of Jupiter Pad for instance..... it would be nice to have the ability to overwrite some of the weaker selections...

I've just figured out a way to share single setups. (I'm using Windows)

Basically what you have to do is save the "Temporary Performance Data" as Roland calls it to a file, then you can send this file (or a shared file) back to the RD. Although the file needs to be modified.

"Temporary Performance Data" is all the current settings on the RD ie the current setup, but with any tweaks or knob adjusts etc.

Here's how to do it.
1) On the RD call a setup that you want to save.

1) You need some way to capture the data. I ues MIDI-OX (search internet)

Send the following SysEx message to the RD

f0 41 10 00 00 2b 11 10 00 00 00 00 07 0f 0b 41 f7
this requests the "Temporary Performance Data"

The RD will send back the data.

The file should be 12,917 bytes.

2) You need a hex editor (MIDI-OX) to change the 7th byte of the saved data from 11H to 12H.

11H = Reqest data 12H = Set data

3) You can then send this modified SysEx message (12,917bytes) back to the RD.

Then you just need to write to a setup as normal (Page 67 of the manual).

You can capture the "Temporary Performance Data" in the SysX window in Sonar LE, but it says the file is too big for it's editor.

Using SONAR you do a "bulk dump" from the RD (P. 135), but then you will still need a hex editor to change the 11H to 12H.

Hope this helps.

I'm not very good at explaining myself so please ask if you need something clarified.

Hi Guys,
by time I will test the saving method from Mark and then I will share some of my sounds, including my "Brian Culbertson" sound.

By the way, I have the the new supernatural kit and I try to rebuild my "Brian Culbertson" sound but I failed.. This BC combination sounds even better...

But indeed the new supernatural kit is sounding great! Yamaha should stay at home with their pianos... ;-)

a bit more info if you use MIDI-OX

To save a setup

View --> SysEx to open the SysEx window

there are 2 panes top is command window bottom is display window.

put SysEx message in command window ie.

f0 41 10 00 00 2b 11 10 00 00 00 00 07 0f 0b 41 f7

Command Window --> Send/Receive SysEx to send

a window (SysEx Receive) will open

click done when the 12,917 bytes are received

you will then see the hex data in the display window

right click in the display window then save as

To load a setup

open the SysEx window

Command Window --> Load File (the setup file to load to RD)

the hex data will load into the top window (command window)

Command Window --> Send SysEx
the data is then sent to the RD

It appears that the 7th byte is already 12H in the saved file.
(so disregard changing from 11H to 12H like I said in my initial post)
That means saving and loading of setups can be done in Sonar LE.
I will have a look at that - no need to download MIDI-OX or similar.

Hope this is not getting too confusing.

Hi Festus,

thanks for putting this post out. I've been looking at the option of writing some windows based software to control this stuff but was just wondering where you managed to get the Sysex message codes to get/set the performance data?

I entered your above code to recieve the data (copied your hex codes and pasted them into the Sysex window, clicked send/recieve but it staued at 0bytes and i dont recieve anything.

Is this documented anywhere from Roland?

thanks,
Paul
