Because then they couldn't sell you an Integra 7 to go with it. :-) At least that's how they were spinning it at NAMM.

Me - "I need a solid flagship type 88 key synth like a Fantom G, with "touring" like build quality and all the Roland sounds. The FA08 doesn't cut it, so what's Roland got now that the FG8 is discontinued?"

Roland Rep - "Get an RD800 and pair it with an Integra 7. As long as you don't need a sequencer it has everything you're looking for: all the sounds, build quality, latest technology, etc."

This conversation actually took place last week. Spend $4500 for two things that Roland could easily put together in one unit for $1000 less. Still, that RD800 felt so nice to play... it's going to be really tempting once they're available.

If you need a good stage piano I have to spend $ 4500. Roland shoots himself in the foot this approach to the customer.
