Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + what?)
Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + what?)
As some of you already know I got my M3-88 the other day. (Paid $1325 shipped I KNOW WOW!!!!)
Anyway, I'm now in another odd predicament. I sold my Triton Pro X (88 key) so I could make room for another more up-to-date weighted board and I decided on the m3... (pretty much due to the crazy outstanding price that I was able to get it for) I sold my Triton ProX for about $800ish.
I have the m3 now and I absolutely love it SO FAR. But I have started to think, do I still really need this Motif XS Rack... I could easily sell it for around $935 or so on ebay and after fees etc, I could probably clear about $850ish. To be honest I haven't really spent alot of time with it since Feb. I've been able to use some of the bread and butter sounds in some quick sequences just to learn my way around the module, but nothing so serious as to make me be attached to it. However, I did only pay $500 for it and seeing that I do OWN it... would it be better to just keep it... (just since I have it?)
Sometimes when I consider everything, it seems like it's more trouble to try to force instruments into your normal setup/routine, just to satisfy your mind and say "I'm using it... so I should keep it". And you go through more set up and learning curve than actually making music.... (I know someone out there knows what I'm talking about!?!?!?!?)
I'm really really torn though about the Rack XS. But then again, how many sounds do you REALLY NEED? LOL
Then there is this whole thing about, well I purchased a 2 unit rack case to hold the Rack XS and my Roland p-330 sound module, and if I sell the XS rack, what do I put in the rack to take its place?... I'd also considered selling the p330 piano module depending on if the m3 will let me load the entire soundfont into memory (really just 3 of the 8 instruments are the only ones I'm gonna load). But if it allows me to load all three of the soundfont files (exact sample replicas of the p330), then there won't be a need for the p330 any more. So I'd most def be able to sell it, which would push me even closer to selling the Rack XS (because it would be alone in that 2 unit rack case....) lol
What to do... What to do...????
I'm also gonna post this over on the Korg Forums and maybe the Motifator site, just to get a wide range of opinions (and not one sided opinions from the KORG or Yamaha site. You all are the neutral party, because of course the FG isn't going anywhere....
Thanks in advance for ANY AND ALL OPINIONS.

Eh... What's your question again? Do you want other people to decide your setup?
I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, but you ought to make up your mind and then make music! It doesn't sound as if you're having much of a problem, really...

@ apex
I had similar decisions to take and I did it right, to sell things I don't need or use anymore then I won't use them anyways. They will just take space in my studio and dust.....
So, if you don't use your motif rack then sell it and get something more usefull.
And for the p-330, just sell it, in my opinion there should be enough piano sounds in the M3 in good quality and maybe you can sample the ones you like.
Honestly with your input you gave I don't see for you to keep the rack modules.
Cheers

I'm a stickler for brand names...I don't know why!
But like you I got an 88 key (mine being a Fantom X8) (oh and great price on that Korg!!!) and I've just added a Fantom G6 to my setup! Guy in the Keyboard store was trying to get me to go Korg, Yamaha or Nord but as mentioned above I went Roland!!!
When I was a kid back in the 80s, i was the kind of person that wore Adidas trainers, bottoms, top and an adidas hat...then I'd wear a complete Reebok outfit the next day! I'm totally incapable of mixing brands! LOL!!!!
With keyboards, I'm just Roland all the way as I guess it's mostly down to what I saw bands using the most in the 80s!
I'm so un-original!

@Apex,
My opinion is the same as Atziluth's. If you don't use them, why to keep them?
Sell them and invest in something fresh
You have a hell of a setup with the FG and the M3 !!!
Cheers,
PauloF
P.S: I'm a Roland adicted too, I'm just missing the G in my collection LOL

@FatBrass
not really want people to decide for me, but I would like some opinions of reason to or reason not to.
just help swaying me one way or another. that's all.
If this thread stays at least semi active from now through the end of this week, I should have a pretty balanced opinion and some clear direction as to what's the best thing to do.

You should open some sort of store Apex. You're good at this game and haven't even branched out into more obscure items yet.
Re: Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + wh
@ db,
what do you mean? good at what? and what's an obscure item?

I mean you have demonstrated a talent and passion for finding good deals. At this rate, you could open a store. 100% serious mate, ok 99% serious.
Obscure, I'm just referring to the wide world of analog. You've covered the big three, now you need at least a Nord, DSI, and Moog. Of course, I have no idea what kind of space you're working with and have always been confused about your goal. It's all good tho, keep on it.

"not really want people to decide for me, but I would like some opinions of reason to or reason not to."
Well, you're the only one in here who knows exactly what musical needs you have and what kind of music you're going to use the equipment with. People in here can tell you what they think is a good or bad instrument, but that won't help you much. Let your wallet, ears and musical direction decide and I'm sure you'll be more than happy.
Good luck!

Re: Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + wh
yes, but there are lots of people on here that either have all three of the major flagship instruments or have had, and their opinions on why they still have them or don't any more, matter to me.
The Bible says in the MULTITUDE OF COUNCIL, THERE IS SAFETY.
when you bring in outside opinions, you also bring in perspectives that you may or may not consider when deciding alone.
that's one of the reason's that I like online forums so much,.... there is always another side to consider and you are almost always guaranteed to get that other side when (possibly) thousands of people (but most likely hundreds ) are seeing your questions or concerns.
And since I'm on the fence (in the middle) about the decision, I felt that Roland Clan (and the other major forums could help me get to one side or the other. (I haven't gotten any responses on the other sites though.... not yet at least)

Re: Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + wh
keep it. some stuff in there is ok like the drums. But again, if you can have some good drums for less then by all means sell it.
Re: Once Again I Need The Advice of the Forum (Fantom G + wh
Personally, I own two desktop synth modules and three synth keyboards. Looking forward to buying more synths at a later date to expand my music studio.
I can't help it, I'm a total Gear Head q:?)
