Hi!
I´m probably about to buy a second hand G8 next weekend. It was bought in 2012 and it has only been used once (I know, we all buy these machines and then let them stay in their boxes untouched for years. The owner told me kids got in the way, and there was no time for music).
Anyway, I´m expecting to see an as new G8 (on the in- and the outside), but what should I look for and test?
-There are no soundcards
-Updates have been made
-No pedals (I think), and no case (still in original box, you know)
Buying second hand G8
Re: Buying second hand G8
Just make sure all the buttons/pads keys work
and check all ins/Outs
and do a factory reset.
That should cover everything

Re: Buying second hand G8
Thanks, Quinnx!
Factory reset before I buy it? Well, since it´s only been used once, I´m sure there is nothing to reset. Or, is there any other reason to factory reset other than getting a G8 as it was in the beginning?

Re: Buying second hand G8
A factory reset will give you a 100% OBE Out of the Box Experience
and clear any rogue settings that could cause you to think there is a problem.
also means if you do find a problem its easier to identify the cause.

Re: Buying second hand G8
I´ll probably need to update the OS as soon as the G8 is mine. I´ve red somewhere that a factory reset should be done right after that. Doesn´t that affect the update?
Re: Buying second hand G8
No - the OS update brings it's own new factory settings and reset parameters.
Re: Buying second hand G8
Perfect! Thanks for all the help.
Re: Buying second hand G8
If the G8 was bought new in 2012, it will already have the latest OS (1.50).
+1 on performing a Factory Reset before trying it out. However, if for some reason that isn't feasible, you can do a Safe Boot.
To do a Safe Boot, hold down the EXIT button while powering on the G8. This will quickly load an "empty" Project devoid of user patches, samples, demo songs, etc… You won't get the full Fantom-G experience, but it will be more than enough to test out the hardware.
And check out the Micro Manual:

Thanks! The manual´s already been downloaded.
Somewhere on the forum someone wrote that the Fantoms were discontinued in 2011. Has to be wrong, I guess.
