Playing the G8 from a EX5

Hi! I have a Yamaha EX5 on top of a G8. There´s a patch, a fast string pad, on half of the the EX5 keybed I´m not very satisfied with, but I can´t get it any better. So, today I thought I´d borrow a patch from the G8. That is, wanted to use MIDI to play it from the EX5. T

After connecting the two, I added the G8 patch to the right Performance set, I switched MIDI channel to ch8 on it and also on the EX5. Then I set lowest key to C3, but there and then the problem started. The lowest key limit set doesn´t seem to work via MIDI. In other words, the patch still receives MIDI along the whole key range.

Is it supposed to be like this? Do I have to, if possible, set the key range limits on the patch itself, from the start?
