I've always routed my switches that way on the Fantom X.
One is usually FX on/off and the other is Modulation.

edit....wrong....

I have the footswitch set to modulation...

The switches to MFX1 and Chorus....I think.

It's convenient to have hard insert like in Motif but it will be a pity if other tracks (especially audio) will not be able to be routed to them. If so Fantom-G will have only two general purposes MFX instances.

Sequencer looks promising thought. What about an automation?

accross the top of the screen...

So PFX and IFX? I am too lazy to go back and read about this...

Can anybody explain these two different FX?

Sounds like it to me, but what are we looking at?

PFX: per part

MFX 1 & 2: shared

IFX: ?

Did you notice the Pad mode in the right hand corner?
Very Cool!

edit...

OK, I noticed at http://www.rolandus.com/products/produc ... arentId=72

that the Input FX has 1 system, 6 types.
The PFX has 16 systems, 76 types...

What exactly is the IFX for...anyone know?

On Fantom Xa you can't assign modulation to the switches... are you sure it is possible on Fantom X6/7/8?????

I have had it that way for 3 years on my Fantom X7.
You can rout them to almost anything.

edit....

Oops...I am wrong...

I have my foot switch set to modulation...

I have the Switches set to MFX1 and Chorus I think.

I use it every day and now I can't remember...

I need the G to get re-organized....

Both the X and the S can assign modulation (actually, any CC message) to the switches. My dad assigns his to transpose up/down, and since the G has a dedicated transpose button, these can now be used for something else.

The Fantom G has 22 effects processors:

• 16 x PFX, which (as of NAMM) are hardwired to the 16 internal parts
• 2 x MFX, which are routed like the Fantom X, and can be assigned to individual (or multiple) internal parts, ARX 1, ARX 2, or individual (or multiple) audio tracks
• 1 x Reverb, added globally in differing amounts to any parts or audio tracks
• 1 x Chorus, added globally in differing amounts to any parts or audio tracks
• 1 x dedicated Input FX, which is hardwired to the G's input (on the X, you had to use one of the MFX processors, which if already assigned to a part, would screw your song up)
• 1 x Mastering processor, which is applied to everything

TOTAL: 22

It's too bad the audio tracks have to share two MFX processors, but at least you can track through a dedicated processor. And I imagine resampling shouldn't be too difficult.

Ideally, the PFX processors could be applied freely like plugins, but nope. This was probably done for simplicity's sake... Or to keep from undermining the seamless switching in Live mode.

Either way, it appears to be way more powerful effects-wise than the other guys. The only other synth I'm aware of that has dedicated FX per part is the Virus.

Screen shots look nice.It all seems pretty straight forward if you are used to a Fantom X,just have more info in front of you really.

Its sort of similar........ but different, if people know what I mean.

It looks much easier to me...

Much less paging to do because of the larger and better organized screens.

I am going to have a heart attack waiting for this!

Why 84 piano patches

Post by paulgee »

At the top of the category colum in this picture it say's 1/84 which presumably means the selected patch is number 1 from 84.

Paul.
