http://www.zzounds.com/item--STOVMACHINE Here it is for sale.

Looks interesting...I really like that Plugiator too, however...
Great synth sounds in there. But that one has prorietary plug ins only, though they sound good. Hmm...

Fair price on both as well...I don't think I need either one right now, but they look cool.

$500 for a plug-in player? This is the price of a dual-core Mac Mini.

Yes or a laptop..
But I suppose its the portability of it..
it has Midi Audio and is contained in a sturdy box.
So no external bulky interfaces or cables required.
it also has instant access to what you have programed via on hand controls.

Mac Mini is one very sturdy box too, can talk to USB MIDI and audio devices, has optical audio i/o, and it's got much more than just a plug-in player.

At least the v-machine has some software bundled. (meaning music software)
Does anyone know which (or how many pieces of software) is included with the Mac Mini at the same price? I suspect none.

And you need a bulky monitor keyboard mouse etc.. to operate it..
I think the point of the vmachine is compact and portable.
It could just sit on the G for instant access.

It includes GarageBand which has quite a few nice instrument and effect plug-ins onboard. Around 20-25 different instruments in fact. The quality is between Juno-D and Juno-G synths, but has a bit more clarity.
And you need a bulky monitor keyboard mouse etc.. to operate it.
You do still need a monitor to edit those synths on the V-Machine.

Anyway, I am not against it, it's just not a device for me. I'd rather buy a real hardware synth module instead.

Not exactly..
You can make edits on the vmachine itself
but you connect it to the PC to install and configure your presets.
Once this is done you can take it alone anywhere without the bulk and recall all your instruments patches and dsp configurations...

It also saves you having to increase any ware and tare on your computer equipments when going from site to site to do gigs or any other form of presentation.

As i said.. I too was thinking.. hmm you get a whole mac, pc laptop for that price.
But its just a different beast I suppose...

Will have to test one to see exactly how it would fit..
Still alot of questions regarding its feasibility.

I like the concept of the V-machine, and of the Receptor, for that matter. But the issue with these machines is that they are pretty expensive for what you get.

Technical Specifications:
* 1 Ghz CPU
* 1G IDE flash disk
* 512 MB RAM
* HD audio codec

Is this a joke? I would need to see and hear it in a store, and if it's stable and fast enough I'll have a second opinion. But based on these specs I would buy a macbook anytime over this.

Oh wow, that is not impressive, you won't even be able to use most modern softsynths there... NI MASSIVE would give 3-4 voices and that box will be all in smoke. And forget about sample-based software like Kontakt or Omnisphere.

Mac Mini has 1.83 or 2.0 GHz 64-bit dual core CPU, 1 GB RAM and 100 GB HD. You can also upgrade RAM and HD.
