Backup! your data

I have seen this a few times but not for a while..
So you have been busy making music and you probably use the same USB stick to save your work..
and you probably dont think that one day... POOF! it maybe all gone..

So with this in mind i decided to start thinking seriously about keeping it safe..

Heres what i do..

all my work is saved to a single USB stick which is attached to the G via an extension cable which means i dont have to reach to the back of my Fantom G each time to remove it or swap.

At some point my current project or song/s will be complete or amassed to where you need to think about backing up. Since all songs, patches and other setups are usually contained within a single project which is usually the current one..

Best practice..
When you start to feel your current work is complete unplug your USB device and plug in either another USB stick or what i do is plug in my powered hard drive via my extension cable.

Goto Project menu and choose SAVE AS
Save project and once done you can now breath, for now you have a back up with piece of mind
your work is now safe..
After this i usually reconnect my USB stick and reload my current project and then continue working until next time i feel the need to do a back up.

For some this all may go without saying..
but for others it just may not have happened yet, so
"Don’t wait till its too late"

Start NOW! :)

Wise words and a good reminder. An alternative for those that have their G connected to a computer via USB is to use the Menu-USB Storage option from the G main menu and load the G as an external storage on your PC. You can then copy the projects to safe storage

Yes, Fantom has USB storage which is cool for when your linked to a computer..

However..
One of the things about a workstation is making it as independent as possible
The method I use means I don’t ever have to be tethered to a computer, just swap the current storage device for another SaveAS and its done.. no need to bootup a full PC or other Computer just to do a back up.
True independence.

Same when doing music itself..
I always strive to push the limits of the G to make it as independent as possible of which now it is..
Its been practically a year or more since i powered up any computer to do music since really pushing the limits of the G.
When we have such a power house as the fantom G it always seem a shame to tether it to a computer ever.

Can I just plug the USB-stick in my computer and copy the data to the computer? Does it work?

Yeah. Thats how I use to do. Don't know why some people bother using a cable from the Fantom to the computer.

I am a bit late, but it's interesting to read that you are supposed to turn of the Fantom G before you remove the USB stick! lmao
