Fantom G MIDI not transmitting

First time i am using MIDI on the Fantom G to control an external MIDI sound module (Roland XV5080). It is not transmitting MIDI. i have tried in Single and Live mode both. In Single, i set the pads to control MIDI tx channel. 5080 is set to channel 1. i can turn on all transmit channels on the Fantom, and get no MIDI signal to the 5080. However, I can use the same cable, plugged into my AX Synth, and the 5080 works as expected. How do i fix this?
