Splits on Fantom G8

I'm trying to set up a split on my G8, in Live mode. I enter the User or Preset patches that I want in the parts column, and after doing so, I set the split points for the patches. Here's what happens: Whatever is in the #1 position as a patch, continues playing throughout the keyboard no matter where the split is set for that line.
Anything from line 2 on splits properly and doesn't sound except in the section of the keyboard desired. I've tried this with several patches. Always the same outcome. Even the volume sliders don't affect that first patch. Is this a known bug in the machine? I'm running System Ver 1.50, which is I believe the latest version of firmware. I would appreciate any response. Scratching my head over this one.
