I want the G6 keybed feel in a 12 pound synth

Post by laserman88 »

i gig with my Roland G6 which weighs 37 pounds. I love the keybed feel and the sounds, but i just want lighter. I never sample or sequence. I know there is a lighter 61 key keyboard in my future, but with the lockdown, i am not finding a showroom of used synths where i can find one i like. also I HATED the keybed feel of the Roland VR-09 i borrowed. Same with the Yamaha MX49 i bought and sold on ebay in the same week.

I describe the sensation i hate as the resistance being supplied by a rubber band. the action doesn't have the snap i'm used to.

so i ask the community: what 12# keyboard has the keybed feel of the roland G6? i've also had the JV-30, the XP-80 and the korg triton. those keybeds were all fine. what about the keybed of a Roland Juno DS61? or a Roland Juno Gi? I'd rather not go more than 10 years old for reliability.

Thanks! - John

I hate to say it, but you can't get those keybeds anymore in reasonably priced Synths or workstations.
The V-Synth has a comparable keybed. My Kawai K5000 S has a very good keybed and my Korg M3 73.
Maybe the Roland Organ/Piano/Synth VR-730 (1200€) is something for you? I think 61 keys are not enough anyway.

saxi, have you tried a vr-730(20#)? i hated the vr-09 (12#). all the other keyboards you mentioned are 30 pounds.

Haven't been here for a while.
I now got my greedy fingers on a vr-730 and I love it. It's decent for piano and excellent for organ play!
Now I can practice these organ slides without destroying my hands and keys. ;)
