Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
Hi to all....
I don´t know if you have noticed this but in the PR-F9 Piano patch in Fantom X8 I feel that B and C Keys (located immediately below Center C maybe called B2 and C3) have a different tone (brighter) from the other keys next to them, for example try playing A2 B2 C3 D3 at a high or medium high strike (velocity level?), do you notice this? I have my keyboard connected to Yamaha PA-300 system, but i have conncted it to other sound systems and it sounds the same.
Is there any way that this sensitivity problem or tone problem can be fixed?...
Was this due to a wrong sampling?...
Does this happen also in SRX-11?...
I hope I can get some feedback and help.
Thank You...

Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
I got bashed my first day on this forum several years ago for bringing this up....I'm over it now... :'(
Anyway, there are some sample irregularities with the piano.
I do not know of any fix and I have never tried the SRX-11.
The SRX-12 even has more sample irregularities, however.
The Fantom X piano samples do not affect my performance, thankfully....The SRX-12 do.

Fantom X8 Piano Patch Irregular
First of all I am glad I´m not the only one that noticed this, so that means I am not crazy ha ha ha!
I would like to know if I get like the William Coakley Piano this will be solved, Or a Tone Generator from a different company...
Regards,
David

Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
It does happen in the SRX11 as well. I SRX11 and it seems to buzz around middle C and B immediately below it. To get around it I created another patch which uses a different wave for 2 of the tone. The buzzing on that one happens around D and Eb. I now have to use 3 patches to get what I want and I use part of the first patch, then the second patch and then back to the first patch. If only you could edit the SRX multisamples....
That said, I do prefer SRX11 to the native Fantom X patches.

On that same UltraGrand patch, I get a strong high A overtone on one of the lower B's (2 octaves below middle C from memory), which sounds pretty awful with many chords.

Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
Yes, is a mess that patch, I did a small tweaking in the patch to avoid that, but still not fixed 100%, so what about William Coakley's Piano? Does it sound really good and does not have those problems?...
Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
dj_chiquito_lopez - My SRX11 is in my Fantom S88 and I also have a X6. I hated the "stock" Fantom X piano patches so I did some patch editing and ended up using waves B 5, 15, 25 and 35 (I am going from memory here as it is not in front of me) and then I set different velocity points to make sure I liked how and when the different voices were triggered.
I dont have the Coakley Piano samples yet but after this tweaking I was happy enough with the onboard sounds to not get them. I did a lot of listening to patches and while I am sure it would sound better I am not convinced it is worth the 5 minute load time.
You may want to play around a little more with the onboard waves and the velocity points.

Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
Thanks for the Tip howardS, I know how to choose the waveforms, but how do you change the velocity points? do you do that for every key that you want to adjust?...
Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
No, you only have to set it 4 times, once for each tone. Go to the TMT table and set the upper and lower velocity limits.
What I did was record a sequence playing as hard or soft as I like to play and then see what levels I hit. They I went back and tried to distribute it nice and evenly so when I play soft the softer one is triggered and when I play harder the harder one is triggered. Everyone plays a little differently and each sound or patch programmer sets it to what they think you will like. They get close but that is why you need to tweak it till you are happy.

Ah ok... Thanks a lot howardS
Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
so the buzzing in my speakers when i play just a straight piano patch is actually the patch and not the speakers? I can EQ most of it out, except around the middle C and just to the right were i can't seem to do it. is it the actual patch?

Re: Fantom X8 Piano patch irregular?
I Think So, I created a patch changing some velocity levels, reducing the tone 2, it did some improvement, not perfect though.
I don´t know if it´s possible to get a "real" piano patch, without buzzing and with great feeling, even with another brand keyboard.
