Has anyone been able to get there fantom to work like a vocoder? I don't want to shell out a ton of cash for a vocoder just to find I allready had one in my x6. I ran a mic through but could only add a few effects to it live. I don't want to have to record it plain, and then add effects later. Can it be done in real time? Thanks for any input.

No, there is no vocoder in the Fantom. Regarding your second question, you can route performance parts through effects in realtime, but for audio tracks I'll wait for others to jump in as I don't have a Fantom-X but an S.
Vocoder
There is a bief video demo at the rolandus.com site on some of the things you can do plugging a microphone to the audio input of the Fantom X. It's no vocoder but you can get very creative with some of the effects.
