Hi,
any XV-5080 owners out here?
I've been thinking about writing a very simple AKAI (S5000/S6000) to Fantom conversion program because I don't see any Chickensys Translator version for the Fantom coming any time soon . My primairy focus will be on the (multi) samples conversion, not the envelopes and filters etc. There are 2 technical parts in doing the conversion that are not documented. I've got 1 part covered (the fantom wav specs) and posted information on this forum a few months ago. The 2nd part is writing multisamples. This is a bit harder because I need to know the fans.svd format. This format is not really public domain and Roland or Chickensys can't give me the specs. I've got some tips from Garth from Chickensys (see http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/sho ... hp?t=23855)
He says that the 'secret' lies in the sysex specs from the XV-5080. The Fantoms sysex specs says nothing about samples. I'm not sure that the XV-5080 has any specific info about samples in sysex either.
Can anyone look into his/her XV-5080 manual and see if there is any technical (sysex) data on samples/multisamples?
Regards,
Martijn.

Re: XV-5080 sys-ex specs
Hello Martijn.
I used to have a XV-5080 but sold it to get the Fantom-X8. Being a SysEx junkie, I did look over the MIDI implementation for the XV-5080 soon after I got it out of curiosity. That implementation documentation was FAR superior in detail to that provided for the Fantom-X (I was dismayed at the lack of detail in the Fantom-X MIDI implementation). The XV-5080 implements what seemed to be a MIDI standard for sending audio sample data over MIDI. I forget the name of that MIDI standard at the moment, but perhaps that is what Garth was talking about. I wish I still had my XV-5080 manual so I could give you the exact data you need, but that went along with the 5080 when I sold it.

McTinus: don't want to be a snob, but please make sure you select a proper forum section to post to. I have moved this one to "Roland gear".
