Beat Retrigger

Is there any way to get a drum patch within a rhythm set to retrigger?
In other words, I want a way to loop parts of a beat, preferably without the use of sampling.
Ideally I'd have a couple of normal snares mapped to the Pad along with some heavily retriggered snares.

For non-rhythm patches I've read that you could use Step LFO to achieve this effect, but for no good reason Roland left out LFO in Rhythm Set Edit mode.

I'm using a Fantom X8.

I guess the drum roll button kind've works. I'll just have to get really good at tapping it so it doesn't roll every time.
Still, it'd be much better if there was another way.
