X6 won't turn on when compact flash is inserted

Post by Joel O »

Hello,

I have an X6 that has an issue. When I insert a compact flash card with the PCMCIA adapter into the keyboard and then turn it on, the beat light flashes, the screen flashes, and then the keyboard seems to restart in the same cycle every 1 to 2 seconds or so.

When the keyboard has been turned on and fully operational, and then I insert the card, it will immediately perform the same cycle.

It seems to lock up the keyboard.

I am using a 4GB Roland brand compact flash card. The keyboard has been upgraded with 512 Mb of SDRAM.
It also has an installed sound expansion pack. Which I did try removing just in case it had some sort of conflict.

Any thoughts please?

Hi, that sounds like something is shorting out when you put the card in, to me.
Do you have any other CF cards you can test? Or any other PCMCIA/CF adapters you can test?

Can you see any bent pins in the PCMCIA slot?

That's exactly what I am thinking. But, I cant see down the pins. Ill have to see how I can some how take a look and see. I have a buddy who has the same keyboard and tonight I was planning to take mine to his studio and swap cards to see what happens.
