Fantom X power supply voltages

Post by Bozzieman »

Hi all,

I've noticed that there have been a number of people looking for the answer on wether or not the Fantom X has different power supplies for the different voltages 110/220/240V or not.

The answer is no. It's one single PSU that support all voltages.
see

http://www.roland.co.uk/faqsearchcat.as ... M+X-SERIES

"THE FANTOM X SERIES HAS A UNIVERSAL SWITCHING TRANSFORMER WHICH ENABLES THE UNIT TO BE USED IN ANY COUNTRY WITH VOLTAGE FROM 110 V TO 240 VOLT WITHOUT MODIFICATION."

That should take away some of the tension ... ;-)

FYI,

the final, reality test will happen in the next hours. I have a friend with a 110V unit coming over to Belgium. We'll be using his Fantom X7 overhere on the 240V ...

I'll let you know if we had to call the firebrigade ...

Good news ... just my hair got burnt ...

Tried both 110V via a convertor, and then 240V straight out of the wall and we still get music out of the Fantom !!!

Conclusion, Roland are taking into ccount that musicians do drag their gear around the world when gigging !

So no worries anymore about voltages, it all works !

Sorry Mate,

don't know that. It's very likely, but I have no way of confirming that to you. Try asking at the support site I referenced below.

Wow, it's fantastic!
Please could somebody manage for me some gig abroad so that I can test it, too?!
:)

BTW, does somebody know if any of Yamaha or Korg instruments are also equipped with such feature?

I cannot assure you other brands have the same feature. But I was told Korg Triton Extremes have this swtiching capability too. The argument for that is that those pro keyboards are used by musicians that for sure will travel with the instruments. It might apply to Yamaha or other brands, but I cannot assure that.

The real problem is the elco, its 400V, while the EU wil grow from 220V to 240V in small steps for over 40-50 jears.
the latest step was to 235V(AC), rectified to DC you will get 407V.
so a little shoot-over in the elco will definitely destroy the Mos-Fet
so you should replace the elco for a 450V version.
