fans.svd and the Fantomasv2010 collection

Post by battlecate »

Hello:

I have found and downloaded the Fantomasv2010 file from the Wayback Machine website. I extracted the file and copied the data over to the CF Card without any issues. I put the card into the Fantom X-8 and booted the keyboard. About 10 minutes later the whole library from the card was loaded !! Whoot !!

So here is my question. What does the fans.svd file have to do, if anything, with the wav files stored in /ROLAND/SMPL/ ?

Is the fans.svd some type of compiled database file that I would need a special piece of software to add/remove wav files to this set?

Is there software to create a fans.svd if so?

Thank you!

The SVD file is the fantom settings file, if I remember right. That will contain all the settings and Patch data to use the multisamples.

Ah cool. So let me ask are there any public domain or places to obtain these SVD files?

I think I got that slightly wrong! There are SVD files in the Fantom that are sound data (patches, performances etc) and SVS files that contain all the system settings.

As for new sounds online, there don't seem to be that many, that I'm aware of. There have been a few shared here over the years, but I'm not sure what's still available or what's public domain. What sort of sounds are you after?

Hello all:

I found the Fantomasv2010 files using the Wayback Machine.

The link to the archived page with the live download is: https://web.archive.org/web/20131203192 ... ples.html
A direct link to the download itself on the Wayback Machine is: https://web.archive.org/web/20131203192 ... sv2010.zip

I do not believe that the website or its creators are around any more. These files are meant to be be extracted and to overwrite the contents of a CF card that would be loaded on Fantom X boot.

There are other pages with "download" links but most appear to be be dead. I am taking the time to use the Wayback machine site to try and find archived copies of them. If anyone is interested I will post them on this forum.

Also!!! Does anyone know who to contact to request updates to the Fantom X page here: http://www.rolandclan.com/library/fantom-x/ ?

Thank you,

Also I am attempting to reach out to the creator of the FantomasV2010 file and see if they would be willing to allow there files to be re-hosted somewhere more accessible than the Wayback machine.

So I have a general question for anyone who might know this.

On this forum I found an attachment called SRX08 - Platinum Trax.zip

In it there is are some files:
  • fans.svs
  • fans svd
  • srjv80-11.mid
  • SRJV80-11.fxl
I not that unlike FANTOMASv2010 there are no other wav files.

Can this be used or am I missing a lot of files from the SRX Physical Board?

Thanks!

You can, at least, just start up the editor or from the front panel and change the wave in each tone that aren't in your FanX to something close (guessing by the wave name perhaps or any wave to hear what it sounds like).
This might inspire you to start in the wild world of sound design.

All the best
