If someone could answer these questions, I would know what I am in for.
1)Does the FantomS read GM files? Is it as simple as copying my GM files from a computer to a Smartmedia card and pluging it in. I currently play on an XP-60 and this would be of a great help if it does.
2)Can the FantomS transpose similar to the XP-60?
3)Is it easy to navigate on the FantomS?
4)Can I convert programs I have in the XP-60 to the FantomS? I would like this board to replace the XP.
This is the first time on this forum and if it does any of the above, I am buying it today. Although some of the reviews do not favor the FantomS, I played it and thought is sounded awesome. Unfortunately, the music store I played it at had no answers for the aforementioned questions and claimed that they could not find the manual.
Thanks,
Kenny
Itching to buy one
Re: Itching to buy one
Yo, Kenny I think that the Fantom-S is very easy to navigate I've only played it at Atina's music over where I live and I navigated through the board pretty good without any assistance. The question you have about transfering your data that you have saved from your XP 60 is a great question. I have an XP 50 and I'm wondering the same thing. Though I very much doubt it. I do know that you can sample data into the Fantom-S so what decided to do was when I get mine, I'm going to sample my seperated tracks into the Fantom-S and put all the samples on different tracks in the Fantom-S and just resequence my songs and maybe even add some sounds to my old songs. That might be how you'll have to do. I can say this it sounds a great deal better than our XP 50 and 60 with way more functions.

Loading Standard Midi files
In response to your question concerning loading .mid files into the Fantom-S sequencer, I decided to try it myself. The owners manual gives specific instructions as to how to do it, but I've had no success. I copied a number of .mid files onto a smart media card. The files show up in the main Fantom-S directory but disappear when viewing them in the song list. I don't know what I'm doing wrong so until I get it figured out, I can't give you an answer.
Standard Midi Files
I just figured it out. I'm sure it's in the manual somewhere but I discovered it by accident. First, I formatted the smart media card from within the Fantom-S itself. I noticed that the Fantom-S creates it's own directory structure. I copied files off of my PC and placed them in the path: Roland/SEQ/SNG/*.mid. I also placed an .aif and .wav file in the same directory. When I called up my Song List, BINGO! there were all my *.mid files. The .aif and .wav files did NOT show up in the list. To make a long story short, using "Quick Play" I was able to listen to the standard midi files by just pressing the sequencer "Play" button. You don't even have to "Load" them into memory if you don't want to. I should add that these standard midi files sound very very good! I can now answer your question. The Fantom-S loads and handles standard midi files brilliantly.......
Re: Itching to buy one
And what about SVQ files? I have an XP-80, so can I use my songs in this format on the Fantom-S/-S88?
xp 50 / 60 files
The songs created on xp 50 /60 can be loaded in FANTOM S via smartmedia card.
Load the xp 50 /60 files on to your compe and from there to the smart media card. Then the somg can be loaded on to FANTOM S and can be edited and re saved on to internal 16 mb flash rom or smart media.
It reads mid as well as SVQ format files.
I have tried all the above things mentioned , so it is working.

Transposition of Keys
Hey guys, thanks for the response. This board is much more appealing to me now and now I want one. Any ideas if the transposing of keys are as easy as on the XP50, 60, or 80. C# just isn't a strong key of mine.
Thanks,
Kenny
