XV-5080

Post by lazeeboy »

Has anyone already converted the XV-5080 Patches and Performances to SVQ's for easy recalling with a running Fantom?

I mean that when you want to go through all the XV sounds, you first have to overwrite the fans file and then reboot. This can be a real creativity killer.

If not, would anyone be interested in such a collection of SVQ's? The idea is this: an svq contains the temporary performance at save time. This temporary performance also contains 16 temporary patches. So 256 patches would mean 16 svq's. If you complement the svq with a little RPS magic. It would be possible by pressing a pad to have each Patch sounding in Performance mode just like it was intended.

Here's an example (16 patches) svq to show you what I'm talking about. It's the first 16 patches of the xv's first bank (piano sounds). Turn on [RPS] and [Menu]->System->Midi->Receive->Receive Exclusive = ON for this example to work.

It would also be possible to have the top 8 pads select a bank of 8 sounds and have the bottom 8 pads select the patches of the selected bank, thus having 64 patches at you fingertips in a single SVQ!! It's a bit (read a LOT!!) more work to do this though. I'll try and make an example (64 patches) of this as well. For 256 patches the bank method would mean 4 SVQ's in stead of 16. A drawback would be that you have to press two pads at most in stead of 1.

Yup, this is possible. Damn, 64 Patches in 1 SVQ. Could be used for other purposes as well.

RPS Layout
[BANK01][BANK02][BANK03][BANK04]
[BANK05][BANK06][BANK07][BANK08]
[PTCH05][PTCH06][PTCH07][PTCH08]
[PTCH01][PTCH02][PTCH03][PTCH04]

So First press a Bank Pad and then a Patch Pad. BTW once you pressed a Bank Pad you can quickly go through the 8 patches; you don't have to press the same bank again.

So, anyone interested in such a collection? Or is it already done by someone else?

I've just finished converting the XV-5080 Patches to SVQ's in groups of 64; so that's 16 SVQ's. Of course the patches are nothing new, but when you look for a sound and you think it's in there use the SVQ's instead so you don't have to overwrite your fans file and reboot your fantom (which could take a long time when you use a lot of samples).

All 16 SVQ's in a Zipfile

Bank 01 (000-064), Bank 02 (065-128)
Bank 03 (129-192), Bank 04 (193-256)
Bank 05 (257-320), Bank 06 (321-384)
Bank 07 (385-448), Bank 08 (449-512)
Bank 09 (513-576), Bank 10 (577-640)
Bank 11 (641-704), Bank 12 (705-768)
Bank 13 (769-832), Bank 14 (833-896)
Bank 15 (897-960), Bank 16 (961-1024)

Patchlist

Have fun,
Laurenz Nitert

PS There could be some mistakes made, it was a manual job. Some effect settings do not sound the same as in Patch mode. These patches sound completely dry in performance mode; when you save such a patch and go to patch mode it does sound correctly. I don't know a quick way to rectify this, sorry.

Hey Spo Elman!

Of course I've got time for my girlfriend. I've got TWO hands remember ;-)

I sure do hope more can be done with it. I'm gonna stare at the smallprint in the back of the manual some more; maybe I'll get more ideas.

Anyway we should all stare at the manual. The manual is your friend. Let's say it all together like some kind of mantra:

"The manual is your friend"...
"The manual is your friend"...
That's it. All together now.
"The manual is your friend"...
"The manual is your friend"...

BTW your girlfriend told my girlfriend that you said we should get together sometime so that both girls can do whatever girls do and we can get freakin' with our Fantoms. I'm not a little tempted.

push pad 13 and the pad 1; doesn't the sound change?
Try another SVQ file. One in the middle. The first SVQ file starts with piano sounds.

I think I'm going to make a patchlist or rather adapt Roland's patchlist.

If you look at the first post a bit more closely it should come to you, I'm sure ;-)

Every SVQ contains 64 patches. I divided those patches into groups of 8 banks. The top 8 pads can be used to switch the banks:
[13]=bank 1, [14]=bank 2, [15] = bank 3, [16] = bank 4
[9] = bank 5, [10] = bank 6, [11] = bank 7 and [12] = bank 8

The bottom 8 pads can be used to select the program within the bank:
[1] = Program 1, [2] = Program 2 ... [8] = Program 8

If you want to save the Patch press [Write]->Patch and save.

I'm going to make a patchlist. There's already patchlist from Roland in pdf format and I plan to adapt that list so you can easily see which SVQ to open and which bank and patch pad to press etc.

Hope this helps,

Could you list the sounds that sound dry (absolutely no reverb whatsoever) as well?

You do realize that these patches could have been downloaded from this very site for a long time, don't you? I did not convert them from XV-5080 format; Roland did that. I merely converted them to SVQ for easy recalling.

The sounds are also in: JV-1080, XP Series, JV 2080, JV1010, XV-88, XV3080, XV5080 and XV-5050. They don't sound exactly the same in the Fantom though, because the internal samples of the Fantom are/could be different than any of the abovementioned machines.

Laurenz,

I load the sounds dry.....
No effects or so.......
Only in the perfermence mode and still hear nothing......
Maybe it's wrong from Roland......
The Roland sounds are in wav format, but I don't no how to laod them into my X7.....
I'm a owner of the X7 since Febr. 2005.......don't no much about the X7 stuff.
You do a very nice thing to put this sounds in these banks!!!!!

How did you store all those patches in the song? The temporary performance stored with the song holds 16, I understand that much. Where do the extra 48 come from? I can't quite figure out how this is done, even though I already used your "live sound switching" tutorial successfully during a gig. There must be some extra trickery involved here...

Cheers
