So guys, can you tell me how does JS take to switch between patches?
I read it takes ONE loong second, is that true?
Does this happen only in "favorite mode?
THANKS

While playing live, you can assign all patches you need for a particular song to performance parts (you have 16 of them). When you switch between the parts, patches change instantly without any delays or interruptions in sound.

Great, thanks.
So in "performance" you can switch between patches very fast.
I've got a Juno-D and I can't use performances because patches come without their MFX (rotary, distortion, etc), does this happen even on JS?
E.g. Can I have a performance with a rotary organ on "1", and an equalized Piano on "2"?

In performance, you choose 16 patches for the 16 performance parts. These patches are loaded in memory already, so when you switch them, it happens instantly. Also, you have 5 effects processors shared between 16 parts: 3x MFX, chorus/delay and reverb. This means, yes, part 1 can have an organ with a rotary effect, part 2 can have a piano with an EQ.

Ok, thanks.
So are you sure in patch mode JS takes a "long time" to switch between patches, for example longer than a Juno-D (have you ever tried it)?
This could be a limit... I don't think I can work with 16 performances and only 3 MFX for each performance.

On JUNO-G, switching a patch takes less than 1 second. However, since there is no 100% patch remain function like in Fantom-G, the sound of effects like delay or reverb will be cut. I am not sure how you'd need more than 16 different sounds for each song... I usually need no more than 5-6.

Could be a problem having 3 MFX but this is surely better then my juno-d.
The problem is not having 16 patches per song, but having "only" 16 performance presets (each one with 16 patches combination) when you have more then 16 songs...
Anyway maybe I can workaround this, grouping patches and doubling them in each performance.

There are 64 performances in user memory, not 16. Each performance holds 16 parts/patches, so you have 64 sets of 16 patches.

Ok, I think now that's all clear, I thought there were 16 performances...

No need to think, just read the manual

When assign patches in performance parts, how can I keep the effects that a patch has in patch mode?

stroumf83 patches come without mfx assigned in patch mode. You have to set MFX inside the performance.
I definetely dislike the way you can switch sounds whether in "patch mode" or in "perfomance mode".
Patch mode: "Favorite mode", with 10 banks each of these with 10 presets. You can easily push the button with the sound you need.
There's no split function, you can do it with keyboard range editing, but you can't set portamento, mfx etc.
Half second of silence while switching between patches.
Performance mode: 16 parts, you switch off all parts, disabling multiple playing parts, you can select the part you need scrolling a list, that's definetely uncomfortable. Would be better having something like a "Favorite Part" so you can call a part pushing a button (0-9). That's not implemented, would be nice with a software update.
If you want to split your keyboard, and for example you need of portamento only on one part of the keyboard (upper or lower), you can have it only in performance mode. There's no other way... I'm pleased if you tell me I'm wrong. In other word you need to create 2 patches one with portamento, one with no-portamento, then you create a splitted performance just for that...
So you can't have a performance, you need at least one performance alone just for that.
Seems like Roland engineers have never had a gig.

Hi. I agree with the thoughts on the last post.
I think they made a big mistake here
I do have a question but think the answer will be no
I have just bought a stage for gigging.
I expected it to have a patch remain like my fantom x8.
I can't find it and did a search on here to see if it had one.
I also want to switch patches during a song but can't have a sudden drop of sound. I use performance and layers already so switching parts on and off as mentioned about if not suitable because it's take so long to switch so many off and so many on.
Patch remai. I felt was the way forward
can anyone tell me if the Juno stage has this feature?
I'm guessing not after Reading the above posts.
If not. What have others found to be the best way to do it with minimal sound dropout.
Many thanks.

I found out it does have patch remain but it doesn't seem to work in favorites and even in presets it still glitches when the effects alter. Not good at all.
They develop foot patch switching but not with smooth transitions. Completly pointless and bonkers.

Is it ok to contact you from someone else's topic? If not, maybe a quick instruction on how to ask a question of you? You seem very knowledgeable and hopefully can help where Roland support only crossed their eyes and held their hands up and responded "...read the book". After explaining my question again, they said they now understood my inquiry but still couldn't help. Here we go:
Just received the JS as gift. 1st endeavor into the midi field and find the learning curve very steep and at times insurmountable. However, I was disappointed by the lack of adjustment on all of the drawbar organ options, (ie; actual drawbar adjustment). I have resorted to VB3 and use a Nano Kontrol board. Great sound, but as always something to give up for what you get. I've learned that I can jump between the upper manual and lower manual options in VB3 by turning the dial to the right of the screen and shifting between channel 1 and channel 2 as the output channel. Now the task: I would like to convert this action into touching one of the "Tone/Select" buttons. I do not need to program the software of VB3 as it already understands this instruction (the channel change that is). I just need the keyboard, when in midi controller operation, to change the channel transmission between the two channels by striking a "Tone/Select" button to be chosen by me. Can you help? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
