Installing OS update

Post by commando »

The latest operating system for the Juno Stage is 1.04. Roland UK have kindly downloaded this zip file to me and I have unzipped it onto a USB stick. What do I do now?

I can find nothing in the owner's manual. Do I go Menu/Utility/User Restore ?

Thanks

Is Roland UK a DIFFERENT company than Roland US??
WHAT is going on with this company? They seem to hide any (much needed!) updates!
And they don't give you any instructions on how to install updates?
I'm sure glad I gave up on them a while back. It's really sad what has become of this company.

This company has become a joke! It's like they're playing games with us - seeing just how much they can take our money and how much they can frustrate us!

Sorry. Just need to vent.
I post in hopes that Roland will see it and possibly get their act together and stop treating its customers like crap! Are you defending a company that sells an instrument with all kinds of faults and NEVER corrects those faults with any updates or recalls?

Actually, I've been using Roland products for decades, never had problems with it, Roland stuff is as solid as a rock. I recently owned the Juno Di, Juno G (no problems) and now own the Juno stage. My only problem with the Stage is that the system settings are not saved, no other problems found till now. I have great confidence that Roland will come with a solution in the near future, I can work around my problem in the meantime. Just relax, make music!

I, too, could not find any mention of this update on the Roland UK site. So I emailed technical support and got the download via an email reply from Oliver Davis, Senior Product Specialist at roland UK. It's an odd way to have to do it, I agree. Why there is not an easy-to-figure link on the Roland website I do not know.

Following on from my last mail, I have to admit that I still have not attempted to instal this update in case it screws up on me - I have gigs this weekend and not enough time to sort out out problems in case the thing crashes. My original post was asking how to instal such updates, since I could find no reference to it in the manual.

I asked Oliver Davis of Roland and he gave me this reply:-

Please copy the file to USB Flash memory.
3. Turn the JUNO-STAGE power off.
4. Connect USB Flash Memory to JUNO-STAGE
5. Turn the JUNO-STAGE power on.
Automatically software update will start.
6. After LCD display "completed", please remove USB Flash Memory.
And turn the JUNO-STAGE power on again.
7. Push [MENU] button, and select 4 Utility, and hit [ENTER].
8. Select "Factory Reset" and hit [ENTER]
9. Push [EXEC] Button under LCD Display.
After Factory reset whole update is finished.

I intend to attempt this next week and hope to report back on the perceived effect, if any, of this latest update. Needless to say I will have my back-up ready!

With apologies to FanTC if he thinks I'm "picking on" Roland -
But, in the instructions that commando received from Roland UK, does anyone see instructions to TURN OFF the Juno-Stage between steps 5 and 6. Just what I needed to see...MORE evidence that Roland doesn't have their act together. Damned if I will take a chance with these instructions, installing something with no documentation and not available on any of their websites.
I'm glad FanTC has "great confidence" in Roland. I used to also. But, my experience with the Juno-Stage and the MANY postings of problems with it (and NO support), have caused me to have NO confidence in Roland. Companies change, and this appears to be the case here. I wish everyone trying to resolve their problems with this keyboard and the company the best of luck. Personally, I give up.

Sounds easy. Where do you get the zip file from on the ROLAND UK web site?

I have mailed to roland and I got the zip-file for the new version 1.04.
The zip contains the file: juno_stage_up.bin
Here the install:
Procedure

1. Copy juno_stage_up.bin to the USB memory’s root directory.
2. Plug the USB memory into the USB MEMORY connector at the JUNOSTAGE unit, then turn the JUNO-STAGE power on.
Data loading begins automatically, and the PLAY LED blinks. Updating is completed when Completed! displays.

* Depending on the USB memory being used, the file may not be recognized at startup, and updating will not begin. In this case, begin a forced update by turning the power on while holding down the [ENTER].

But this version only includes a bug-fix in Test-mode and only neccesary for Technical department!

You HAVE to wonder why you have to be a "detective" to find any updates and/or instructions to install updates. And, Roland HAS to be the ONLY company that hides updates from their customers by not posting them on their website. Strange...VERY strange!
