sound program compatibility list

Post by oliv928 »

It would be nice to know the list of compatible sound program (samples) from ROLAND synths
Concerning JS, internet is a desert
As I understand and have tryied we can rely on FANTOM X banks
What about other fantoms, also other series : JV,JP,XV,XP ...?
I have tryied to import some XV5080 it doesn't work
Cheers,

Sure it's impossible to load those who contain samples to be loaded.
It's probably possible to reuse patches which are based on the same waveforms already present in the JS ROM but we should use some trick like exporting them in SMF format and then importing those files in the JS editor.
Another (very time consuming) possibility is to recycle patches from the Juno di
I couldn't succeed in writing an automated conversion routine but I could reuse all my old patches using the same waveforms by reproducing (copying) all parameters using their editors side by side. Parameters are practically identical.

i am sure smf exporting then import in JS editor is the most convenient way
Do You think Juno Di and JS samples ROM have a lot of common samples ?

Yes, I had a Juno di before the Juno stage and they share a lot of waveforms, though in different locations. Juno Di has some probably newer samples I could not find in JS.

good. This is encouraging
Do You think that the Di and JS shared waveforms has the same name ?
In that case I can cross check tables and establish a common waves list

The problem is the two Junos share some hundreds of waveforms (and yes, with the same name) but not all of them, and the locations are generally different (and the JS has three sound banks - one for the internal ROM and two for the SRX cards) so writing such a list is a long work... Moreover, I noticed in some cases the same waveforms do not sound exactly the same way (but at least they are close) I don't know why.
BTW recently I had no time to fiddle with my JS, so I couldn't try to reprogram other Juno-Di programs or check Fantom X patches compatibility (and I could not try your piano perfs, sorry!)

Pre-FA06/Integra 7 synths, Roland keyboards are not directly inter-changeable in terms of patches even if they have almost exactly the same waveforms. You need to use a file converter but it is a tedious task.

There is a thread here about the XV collection that you can load directly to Juno Stage.

file converter ? You mean something like "Chicken system translator" or just edit in editor then create mid then import mid in JS editor and upload to JS ?
