saving a split to favourites

Wasted a few hours trying to do this. I made a split with piano for right hand and organ for the left.
when I save to User 501 it only seems to save the organ.
It shouldn't be this hard! I have been following the manual and going round in circles!
Could someone please help, I just want to save the split to one of the favourites, preferably to bank 0 and then make a few more favourites.
Guess I need step by step instruction. Thanks

Ok problem solved it was having to move the cursor up before saving a performance.
Still some confusion about how to save to a different bank in favourites etc ...
