Not passing external midi clock via soft-thru

This has come up in this forum and elsewhere in the past, but I'm reposting to see if there really hasn't been a solution in all this time. The Gaia does not pass external clock sync via midi thru when in a midi chain. Is there really nothing that can be done about this and nothing that's going to be done about it? I'm about to head out and buy a splitter which is annoying but I guess ultimately better for latency but it more or less renders that midi out port redundant.
