The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
This thing sounds better than the SH-201 IMO
I like the top panel and the layering of the 2 ocs. There is also the famous supersaw.
The knobs and sliders are better that these on the SH-201 they feel better. And good is the USB-Stick support to save your sounds, so you are not restricted to the 64 slots aviable.
The osc are better in quality that those on the 201, I am pretty interested into this synth and it's not expensiv at all ($ 740 I have seen). Nice add!

Yeah, specs sound good but IMO it looks like a cheap Casio.
Hopefully there will be different shell colours.

Rossynth, have you seen it live already? It is far from looking like a cheap Casio. It indeed looks even more expensive and high quality than the SH-201, I'd say on par with JUNO-G level.

And it has 64 voice polyphony compared to the "mere" 10 voice of the 201

Owwwwwwwww!! I can feel the G.A.S. building inside. This will make the SH-201 price go down especially in the used market. I like the idea of being able to use batteries, the 2nd USB in is also great. The 3 layers, 5 effects simultaneosly, 64 patches user/factory. The really worked on the SH-201 defficiencies. I think we have a winner!

Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
The extra layer and new layout seems interesting enough. Not sure about the FX or the mini-jack and the deciding success factor might well be the price. It'd have to come in low to dip into my ARP/Jupiter fund.
Here's what other people think of it and, for that matter, Roland in-general.

Could the Gaia be a turning point back towards the 'real' electronic musicians?
I guess not, according to these reactions.

dbijoux, with all due respect, I don't think you should have posted these links. People are commenting on a synth that is not even shipping yet. And their "reviews" are based on listening to a few basic sounds in the demo videos...
Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
I thought there were some valid points brought up.
The most interesting conjecture on gearslutz was about the new VA engine. Obviously, it's already been dispelled here that it's not the SH-201 and even the Gaia demos show more promise than it's predecessor, but there are some comments that do offer some broader perspective.
Of course, the Roland hating, justified or not, is mostly laughable. It's something I've come across only randomly before.
The Gaia/SH line seems a good opportunity; it's already caught many peoples attention.
ps. I wouldn't call them "reviews".

dbijoux, I am just a bit irritated by those comments you linked to, sorry... because I already had a chance to play the SH-01I know how it sounds and how it doesn't It's a very cool little synth, pleasant and inspiring to use, and very capable.
Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
I liked your first reply better. There's no need to shoot the messenger now. ;-P
You should know I mean no offense to you personally. I maybe understand your feeling though, considering that you designed the patches? Of course, none of those comments are aimed at you or sinevibes. I mean, imagine how I feel having the Juno(like we are in counseling now).
Anyways, here are some brighter mentions to round out the discourse.
You can record on the USB stick?

Even the Yamiguys are keen on the SH-01!

Intriguing also are the comparisons to the JP-8000.

Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
No, I am not defending my patches, but the synth itself. As I said I kind of feel irritated when people comment on a synth they have never played in person.
P.S. I edited the previous post a bit so I do not look like I am showing off too much Or do I still?..

Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
Finally, a state of the art technology analogue synthesizer. Now this baby is certainly worth while for any musician. Easy portability with battery cavity, busking, clubs, parties and general fun playing use. I would use this baby to play with, not record from. A great synth for practicing tweaks and slides. That is something I would definitely love doing on this synth.
From watching and listening to the sounds on the demo from db`s blue link post, the sounds are very clean and rich.
what a beauty !

Re: The GAIA SH-01 sounds fantastic
i have already seen it. it has many functions,
but it is made in China. it has very light weight.
better than sh201, but over priced for cheap construction.
if you already have sh32, jp8080, its not necessary to get it.
