Well if Roland decides to discontinue the SH-201 because of the release of the SH-01, you might say it's a replacement, but in actuality I would say they are a bit different. The sound, effects, and functionality make these synths a bit different. If Roland releases software it could tie these two together more, but I don't think I'll be selling my SH-201 anytime soon. I would miss the user arp pattern ability, split keyboard, editor, and a few other things on the SH-201 quite a bit. To me, they really are two different keyboards. Other than effects and sound, I think the Roland GAIA is a step down in functionality....but again a software editor would probably rectify all that.
