GAIA Improvement Suggestions - FIRMWARE UPDATE

Post by Scotty_ »

We'd like to forward some suggestions to Roland for the Gaia, on behalf of the Gaia Users Group of Los Angeles/Dallas/New York, as a possible firmware update:

1 - To add an option for per oscillator drift, aka analog slop - slight natural detuning like analog synths - would be a very welcome feature that is usually present on VAs but not yet on the Gaia.
2 - When you save a patch, the effects settings won't be saved if you have turned the fx off. For example, I programmed the flanger, but pressed the flanger button so the red light went off. Then saved. When I went back the patch, the flanger parameters went to default.
3 - One bass boost level is better than none, but 3 levels would be so much more helpful to warm up patches without the one large bass boost option presently offered.
4 - Retrig option - to have the envelopes retrig with every legato key press .
5 - Compare function - to be able to toggle between the patch as it was saved, and the patch in it's current edited state.

These changes would really help us Gaia users.

A software editor/ librarian with the arp creating/editing capability like the SH-201 has would be fantastic!

Editor for patches is nonsense, in my opinion, but Librarian is definitely a must-have!

I vote for both: software editor and librarian.

Software editor is not just for editing, it's really convenient to see how the patch is made. Since there is no screen on synth, it's really hard to see the actual values of envelopes, modulation, routings, etc... Now multiply it on three independent tones and it's really getting messy here :D

KORG MicroKORG XL for example, has software editor (for Mac and PC) and it's really convenient tool for sound programming and as a patch storage.

If the Editor for SH-201 could be adapted for SH-01 that would be perfect, as it will allow us also to port the SH-201 patches for SH-01 if needed.

Roland, please reply to let us know you've read this. We were advised by a Roland associate to post bug fixes/os update suggestions here .

Another thing that would be great is if they could change the fact that when you plug in the headphones cuts the master outs. Why the did that? It would be ok in an arranger with speakers, but in a VA? What they were thinking?

I think at least they shoud give the user the option, to have this changed on the synth panel, like press a couple of buttons an change it the way it suits you better.

I think the headphone switch is hardware, not software.

Hi guys!

I think it's so funny that there are all these odd suggestions, but nobody has even mentioned the one thing I think is the most important one - and is for me personally the only thing I really miss: Individual effect on/off for each OSC! :-P
