Alternative for EV-5 pedal -- Gaia "Expression" / "Volume" ?

Hi --

I've been trying to get an M-Audio "expression pedal" working on my new Gaia.

I've checked that an on/off "sustain" pedal works on the Gaia, to control HOLD.

When I plug in an M-Audio "expression" pedal (model EX-P -- diagrams here:

), and try to use other pedal functions (VOLUME, EXPRESSION, etc) --

. . . the pedal has no effect.

I've tried both the "m-audio" and "other" switch positions.

. . . Does anyone have good ideas about what to do next ?

(I have a ham license, a multimeter, and enough skills to take things apart and put them back together. But surely, someone has been through this before . . . )

Pot wiper to tip
Pot end to ring
