Ebay: New Juno G has higher selling price than Juno GI.

My eyes are not tricking me: I have noticed that on Ebay, a new Roland Juno G is selling higher than a new Juno GI ($1000+ for the Juno G while $899-$999 + free shpping for Juno GI).

Roland really needs to get straight....customers are not stupid, we know what we want. Heck, even Roland US customer service told me to put off buying Juno GI until Roland gives an update, and that G is better...lol.

The thing is Roland still has the best hardware synth sounds for my taste. I love Juno GI sound, just wish Roland would enhance its utility as well with a new OS, Voice Editor and supplement manual.

But surely that price difference is explained by the fact that Juno Gi is available new in abundance, whereas a new Juno G (discontinued years ago) will be extremely rare?

There's nothing wrong with that.
The Juno-G is a full featured workstation with synthesizer, sampling, 16 track MIDI sequencer and 4 track audio recorder while the Gi is a "simple" synthesizer with a 8 track audio recorder. With simple math you see why the G is more expensive... ;-)

I agree with both of you about the rarity and the workstation capabilities.

The pity is that I sold my Juno G for $600 with freebies in new condition a few years ago....see what happens Roland when you make the wrong product decision? :(

I'm sorry junoguy, I don't get it, you sold you Juno-G and now you think Roland made a wrong product decision for releasing a cheaper keyboard in the form of the Juno-Gi???

I sold Juno G because I was short of money at the time, not because I didn't like it. I then got the Fantom G thinking I can go one step up but was disappointed with some OS issues and initially, the acoustic presets.

By the time I wanted to get a JunoG again, they sold out everywhere...and then enter the GI...

I still have hope that the GI will evolve into something better...waveform edit on screen, pc/mac editor, perhaps even a midi sequencer and sampler like on g...i will follow Roland US's advice and watch over the fence.

Well, I think you do good taking the best out of your Gi. But expecting it to get a midi sequencer and sampling is really ...way over the fence ;-)

I know Roland won't release midi and sampling in GI just because they still need to sell a lot of Fantom Gs. Now I think Fantom Gs are in a whole higher league with 16 insert effects (instead of 2+1 on the GI) but for some reason, the GI sounds fresher and nicer (at least as far as the live sets are programmed).

I do hope Roland to incorporate at the very least a sound editor and a waveform editor and oscillator waveform change on screen for the GI...otherwise, I won't buy it.

Now, the Jupiter 80 is really intriguing but again its MIDI implementation is something I am not sure about. Doesn't it have like 10 separate multi-timbral parts (4 left, 4 right and 2 more)...why don't they talk about using it as a MIDI module in addition to a 'live synth'?

Roland seems to go to the direction of 'live' without emphasizing MIDI..and for recording, well MIDI is still king. Thanks to Mike Acosta (roland specialist) for creating that awesome video about Logic integration with Juno GI, otherwise people won't even know about how to do that (thanks to Roland Corp for the manual which ignores midi to a large extent). Roland Corp, Japan should do more to support guys like him (monetarily) if they can't get their act together. Yamaha Corp has allowed their specialists like Phil Clendenin to create many useful user supplement manuals in pdf format for the Motif series and Mo series.

Yamaha is miles ahead of Korg and Roland in the support department (Roland being the worst). Yamaha has a very structured team of product specialists and clinicians to support them in the US. That being said, Roland has some great people like Dan, Mike and Ed (Diaz) but why can't Roland Corp release supplemental PDFs and periodic updates is beyond me - sad really because I prefer Roland synthesizer sounds over Yamaha's.

V-Cee-Oh, sorry for the confusion mate. I just wanted to point out the MIDI implementation in some of their latest keyboards and was drawing parallels between GI and Jupiter 80 in terms of MIDI channels vs 'live instrument'.

I am going to end up probably getting a sonic cell and buy 2 srx cards...that seems to be the best bet as of now. Sonic Cell has a nice voice editor, has a better audio interface than Juno GI (24bit/96khz) and nice, clean sounds.

I was below the impression that livesets couldn't be recorded by method of midi. I guess the guide was only referring to midi ctrl mode. Thanks.I think you do very good getting the best away from your Gi.
