It's not a MIDI player. It's an audio player. It records WAVs from the Jupiter and plays WAV, AIFF and MP3 audio files.yet it has a midi player which i presume will play upto 16 parts so does that mean it is then 16 part multi timberal?
Why would you purchase an 80 over a G or Kronos?

@Abierto you should have a look at Wikipedia definition of "rompler".

I made a gross use of the rompler word.. What I was meaning is a Keyboard that use samples, loaded into ROM memory ;)Artemiy wrote:@Abierto you should have a look at Wikipedia definition of "rompler".

There's a feature called tone blender that will allow one controller in, then have it mapped to multiple parameters, including MFX, of multiple synth tones in each Live Set. Not one knob-one function, but lends itself to some wild experimentation as you can save the resulting Live Set as a new creation.Leh173 wrote:I'm going check it out when it's released for sure. I think my frontrunners at the moment are the Kronos and the JP-80 for my live gigs. I like the G a lot but it's a bit older and still expensive here in Australia (30-40% more that US at least). I think the Kronos would be a good laptop replacement but the JP-80 looks like it has a lot of grunt too. Gotta say we're spoiled for choice right now.
My thoughts so far:
Pros:
Sounds really good from what I've heard so far, the Synth sounds are good and the SN engine seems to live up to hype. Seems to have the right combination of high quality sounds.
76 keys
Heaps of polyphony. Howard Jones didn't seem to run out with his massive layers.
Good build quality.
Cons.
Lack of controllers. Have to play one, but 4 sliders for level only? Seems a step backwards.
Price. if its $4k US I dread to think what it will be here....
Not sure it should have been called a Jupiter.

Since Korg unveiled Kronos, I must admit that I've been lusting on it.
For about the same price, the Kronos has two more VA engines, FM capabilities, sampling and a sequencer (plus that fun KARMA stuff all of their synths embed so far.)
I do want to be convinced to buy the JP80 instead, I really do want. Besides the name and overall look & fell that make this new board very tempting, it offers less capabilities on the paper, and so far I've not been convinced by the demos (but given it makes no sense to demonstrate high quality sounding boards in a YouTube video...)
Vulcan logic dictates Kronos :/

Because it simply sounds better! At least this is what I think.

@ Vince. Ok thanks for that info Vince. I look forward to playing one. Hopefully the manual will be online soon to devour! The videos make me think that this will be quite an inspiring board to play.

Thanks all! It kept haunting my dreams, so I had to pull the trigger. That's really what making music should come down to. I can make any instrument sound good, but I play what inspires me. Even the IDEA of the Jupiter 80 makes me want one, so that's far more of a factor for me than what's on the spec sheet.
Plus it's rainbowtastic.
