So, it will either have just 4 parts which can be controlled via midi (percussion, live mode 1, live mode 2 and solo) or there will be ten parts (counting the partials inside of a live set).
I further suppose that any part, regardless if there will be 4 or 10, will communicate on any of the 16 available midi channels.
It's interesting to mention, that the J80 can't play SMF but only audio. I guess the reason for this is exactly the fact that the J80 doesn't have 16 parts and because of that, playing a SMF file would often be erroneous.
Could be... But don't forget what Roland did that in The Junos Di and Gi and in The Gaia SH-01, I mean, having Midi controllable 16 part multi-timbral...
Just to confuse the things a little, don't forget a thing that Roland guys said...
The Solo and the Drums Parts are mutually exclusive, I mean, not accessible at the same time. Is just one or the other... Remember the 27 "Oscijators"? Upper [(3 OSC x 4 Partials)+ Lower (3 OSC x 4 Partials)]= 24 + Solo or Drums(3 OSC x 1 Partial)= 27... If they are not accessible from the front panel, does it make any sense that they are from external MIDI ? hum... Don't think so...
;-)
Anyway...Like I said, let's wait for Roland to give us some light on this (and other) doubts soon.
Cheers,
