The Jupiter-80 structure resembles an Atom .

Post by Rocness »

There has been something about the Jupiter-80's structure
that has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what it reminds me of .
Not until my discovery of partials did it come to me . The fact that there was something
smaller than Tones in the huge universe of the Jp-80 called Partials is what made me start thing about an Atom.

What is an atom?
Atoms are the basic building blocks of ordinary matter. Atoms can join together to form molecules, which in turn form most of the objects around you.

OK now remove the word Atoms and insert registrations . (you have to think in terms of sound and music)

Next :

What are atoms made of?
Atoms are composed of particles called protons, electrons and neutrons.
Registrations are composed of particles called Live Sets, Tones and Partials .

I just think this is a lovely structure Roland implemented because if you look at it like an Atom you are literally building planets a galaxies so I think the name Jupiter-80 is more than appropriate .

Terminology has been taken backwards a step from what was on the G.

the smallest part on the G is the waveform as on the jp80
on the G this waveform is called a tone on the jp its termed a partial

tone on the jp is akin to a patch on the G

Previous to this the term Patch referred to on older synths was a bank that called up a layered set of 2 or more tones as referred to on the JP80 or patches as referred to on the G
but on the jp a layered set of tones is called a live set

its all just very confusing

i can certainly agree on the confusing part.... silly me found the naming structure for the G to be quite sensible.. 4 tones per patch.. but in fact Roland history is on the side of the partials in a tone structure..

dont mean i gotta agree with adding confusion tho :D

well, you should maybe remove your dna-goggles and replace them with ordinary eyeglasses before calling people "high".

IMHO.

No offence meant: I just think that some respect is due to a forumer who just wrote in metaphorical terms.

BTW
The first Roland to use Partials was the D-50. It had/has Partial-Tone-Patches. No "performance" mode by then but some sounds could actually take you to the "stars" ;-)

I restrict myself to moose, especially when synthesis is concerned.

But I can accept that some weird guy might like does. I am very tolerant.
