mm , that is not what it says in the parameter descriptions & midi implementation sheet of the jupiter 80 ??

You are saying that you have for each part in a live set a seperate keyboard range setting ?
1) keyboard range lower part 1
2) keyboard range upper part 1
3) keyboard range lower part 2
4) keyboard range upper part 2
5) keyboard range lower part 3
6) keyboard range upper part 3
7) keyboard range lower part 4
8) keyboard range upper part 4

and the 4 keyboard zones in the registration are overwriting these ?

Keyboard range is programmed per TONE at the registration level.

Without using the split function the following applies..

Within each live set there are four tones, each with its own keyboard range.. so conceptually this is same way of setting up split & layer as Fantom G... SO, add 2 live sets to solo and perc parts and you have 10 tones with independent keyboard ranges (read split/layer).

Press split and the incoming notes to those live sets are filtered by the split point(s) as desired.. do not press split and the splits/layers setup in the live sets will be used... so 10 tones layered/split however you want, or overridden by the split points.. quite flexible.

Its not well explained in videos and certainly not in the manual, but from a left hand/right hand perspective i think its a more flexible way than FG...

Unfortunately no, and that is where quite a lot of users get confused. Keyboard range is NOT programmed per tone at the registration level. At the registration level you set split points for four parts: perc, lower live set, upper live set and solo.
Further split points CAN be set at a level deeper, that is the live set level where you can set further splits between up to 4 live set parts.
