Blimey! Don't attempt any landing in Europe either!

First Greece, now Cypress. Beam us up quick Mr. Scott...there's no intelligent life down here except for the socialists who have found a way to eek out a living from the sweat of other peoples brows!

When the sweat runs out, there's going to be a real commotion!

I'm a new convert to Roland and just bought the Jupiter 50 ( yes I know stop shouting "wrong forum" at me, and "what were you thinking!" ). I couldn't afford the 80 and probably couldn't lift it either (just sold my Korg PA2X Pro for that reason, hence the 50).

Anyhooo, you guys know the 50 is the baby brother but has nearly all the same sounds and programming so I just popped in from the 50 forum to glean ideas from the professionals and read this post. What I'd like to know is why dany didn't write the manual? His explanation is great and I've printed it off to help me through the programming dark times. It does take a while to get your mind round the structure, like booting into the register, but after a solid week of tweaking all the sounds and saving into registers (I'm up to 50 so far) I'm beginning to get a grip.

It's great you guys discuss these things in depth without throwing your toys out of the pram (I was in the Korg forum and they're excellent as well). For me the 50/80 concept is great. I play in a covers band so I just want to create sounds as near to the original ones as possible and the 50 allows me to do that (without getting into all that messy sampling doo dah).

So, forgive the intrusion, I'll creep back to the small select group that are the "50" owners for a mug of Horlicks and a nap. In the meantime perhaps one of you could use your considerable expertise and professionalism to tell me how Gareth Bowen got his piano + pad sound on his interview "Roland Jupiter 50 In Depth Sneak Preview" with synthtopia, www.synthtopia.com/content/tag/roland-jupiter-50/
(2nd utube down the page) I know he's using Upper 1545 which is APiano+EGrand but he's customed it to Piano+Pad and I can't reproduce it. I know it's a bit sneaky to do it here but I wanted to compliment dany anyway on his explanation and while here ........
Cheers

The cheek of it! What is the world coming to? Expecting communications about another keyboard - really; 'tis not on! ;)

More than welcome here, anytime. After all these two keyboards are very similar in how they work and they are both the current Jupiters (whether anyone likes it or not!!).

Using your Upper 1545 piano sound add 0280' LFO Pad 11' to the Lower layer and then on the Solo layer add 0050 'Strings'.

Does that work?

Hi cello, you're right about the solo and lower, but it was the upper I can't nail. The piano 1545 must be tweaked in some way and when he adds the pad the sound is just what I'm looking for. The pad sounds like 0001 JP8 Strings 1, but once again he must have tweaked it, unless it's down to the amplification. I'm trying it through headphones which usually gives an accurate representation of the sound.

Anyhow, I'll just keep trying, I just thought those members who are used to Roland might have an idea where it may be tweaked and where to look for the sounds.

Many thanks for your input.

Time to resuscitate the old classic post about the love hate relationship with this synth called the Jupiter-80. This time though, OP Kevin is not that keen on the Omnisphere 1.5. Overpriced and the UI is just not that intuitive and user-friendly according to him.

Any happy Omnisphere aficionado's out there who would wish to opine or agree/disagree? I myself do not have Omnisphere yet, but was quite taken by what Eric Persing does with that Cavaquinho sound and Granular at around the 10:00 mark of the demo and that Orb feature just looks like a real gas!

But then of course I'm easily amused!

Of course, the Dude would have to respond to Kevin:

I am using Omnisphere on an OpenLabs MiKo LXD http://openlabs.com/LxdPage , which transforms Omnisphere into a real hardware synth with a large touchscreen and plenty of real-time controllers.

The outstanding and very intuitive UI of Omnsiphere is perfectly suited for the handling via touchscreen.
Omnisphere offers virtual, resp physical modeled analog synth waveforms, but also a plethora of GB of unique or never before heard sampled waveforms as source for the synth oscillators. They sampled for example a burning piano, bowed bicycle spokes, bursting light bulbes in slow motion, etc. Some of those sounds are to find in Omnisphere's "Psychoacoustic Sound" category.
And as shown in the video you've posted before, it offers many very interesting synthesis forms.
The modulation routing is extremely easy and flexible. The sound is extremely versatile and the quality is incredible and in the world top league (if you have the perfect hardware running it).

Some sounds of Omnisphere will take you far beyond the sound universes of other soft synths or hardware synths, like the JP-80 and OASYS...

Omnisphere (but also Trilian and Stylus-RMX) is a must and it's worth every single Dollar. It's in fact really cheap, considering what you get for the money!

More Omni videos for even more G.A.S: http://www.spectrasonics.net/video/vide ... TypeID=all

BTW: I've listened to your evolution of "The Munch" to "Montreux Smiles"....just pure awesomeness!!!

Thanks Dany. I am chuffed that watching all of those Montreux (and the one from Munich) concerts that you hipped me to inspired me so. Getting all of that bass jamming from just one chord (a D7#9) was a real blast, and I also got to use that JP-80 muted trumpet for the first time as well as adding that spooky portamento sound on the XT from my Sparkler Pad Project (Dead RingerAD).

As for the Omnisphere...

I will be going down to Guitar Center to pick up a copy tomorrow as they have it for $479. The video sold me well enough, but it is good to hear your glowing endorsement as well.

I could make a cheeky crack about this one too as I was quite amused by it, but suffice it to say that it sure looks like the RSA is amused by something too. Not sure what Wombie is doing though...

Can't tell, but maybe there is Rapid Eye Movement going on there. Either that or he is on the Threshold of A Nice Dream.

Finally, and last but not least, paying homage and respect to one of the Rock and Jazz/Funk greats. Thanks for the memories GD!

I didn't know yet!.... and I've just heard before that George Duke died the 08/05/2013!

What another huge loss for the world of music! Now he followed the other music giants of his league, who already left this planet, like Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Michel Petrucciani, Michael Brecker, Bob Berg....

...I still remember, how I sat as a teenager in Montreux at the artist's bar beside the great Duke, like a little dwarf next to a giant, reverently looking up to him. I only looked at him, but didn't dare to speak, and when he saw me down there, he just grinned back friendly and took a sip of his drink...
