Welcome to RC, Roderick :)

And with your very first post here you have got to the nub of the JP-80 weakness - no librarian!

It is not possible to have all the v1 AND v2 sounds loaded at the same time. Not enough free slots for this. It is possible to manually delete sounds you don't want from v2 to free up some more slots and then on import, select which v1 sounds you want to have. The difficulty apart from the amount of time this will take, is not knowing what v2 livesets/registrations you might 'break' through over-zealous deleting.

The only way we have is to carefully manage your USB folder and use the restore routine. We are only allowed one active ROLAND folder on the USB - the OS won't recognise any other folder. So you need to BACKUP your current v2 sounds (this saves any of your edits/creations). Once complete rename the ROLAND folder as ROLAND v2.

Now take my v1 folder and call that ROLAND. Put it on your USB stick - this must be carefully done as if you haven't renamed your old roland folder, you will overwrite it...

With the USB in the JP-80, go to RESTORE in the system menu. It will now overwrite your currently loaded v2 sounds with all the v1 sounds. You need to power off/on once it's finished.

Hope this helps - but do ask if anything's not clear!

I have the V2 Reg's loaded and tacked on most of my favourite V1 Reg's like Canadian Spring and Mumbai Pyramid as well. I also added 32 custonm creations and I still had plenty of Registration space left, but the tone space gets slim because it doesn't know which V1 and V2 Live Sets are using the same tones and just adds the same tones into the first empty slots it finds so there ends up being a lot of duplications.

I have been going through the V1 Live sets and compiling all of the tones it uses and plan to do the same for the V2 Reg's but had to go on the road so I haven't had time to finish it.

I'll try to finish it by next week.

Best regards,
.:':.DH.:':.

Ok thanks for the reply. In the future do you think it would be possible to do this with a software library
via USB. Like the Virus TI series?

Welcome to RC KarmaDRE :)

You chose a great keyboard - congratulations!

Yes it is possible to import from different SVDs but you need to do it in a certain way - and also be very careful!

First you need to download my 'blank' sound set (SVD) from jp-80.com. You then have a JP-80 with no sounds (apart from SN acoustic tones).

Then you need to use the import routine to pull particular sounds into you blank JP-80.

It is complex however as you have to rename folders on the USB several times.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Cello -

Is the data repository gone?

Cheers,
Kevin.

Hi Kevin

jp-80.com still well and truly there! Although my servers were hacked and about 500 files were infected which did switch some sites off for a while (including the repository).

Visit it again and then hit the refresh button and you'll get the repaired and fully working site.

Hey Cello,

Many many thanks for all of your efforts for our lovely Jupiter 80s! You were always a great help at Korg Forums - and you are missed - but it's good to know you are here and really helping us with workarounds for the librarian issue and of course the soundsets.

So, I wish I could buy you the best single malt Scotch, but, it's the thought that counts I hope!

Best,
Vlad

PS: Again I am glad I took your advice on the JP-80. What a great musical instrument she is.

Hi Vlad_77 - thanks for your kind words; much appreciated :) They were good days at KF; great knowledgeable community there.

I so appreciate your malt whisky thought! I can imagine what bottle you might get, so the thought is complete lol

Yes, our beautiful JP-80 has her flaws as we know (Librarian) - but when it comes to sound creativity and expressive power, musically, she is flawless :)

Hope you are well and thanks again for the kind post - I shall toast your health tonight with a fine dram :)

It's definitely not working - I've tried with several browsers and always a page in blue saying this domain had just been registered appears. I've cleared the history of my browsers too.

What I'm also noticing is that for less than once second at the beginning of a refresh a text page appears saying something about a problem with the domain, and then this generic kind of domain service provider page appears with lots of ads on it. I've tried it on Safari and Firefox.

Kevin.

Try viewing the site at http://www.jp-80.com. The link on page 1 of this thread doesn't work.

You're both right!

Yes Kevin, the original download.html link is no longer active as the website it linked to was no longer logical given the number of sounds. So I made the entrance at the top level http://www.jp-80.com and re-designed the whole thing. Once you get in, hope you like it!

I am about to put up a re-direct page for download.html which will automatically take the user to the 'front door' thus avoiding any inconvenience in the future.

Thanks for letting me know about the issue and thanks Devnor for chiming in :) and apologies Kevin for the hassle!

Edited to add; download.html now takes the user to the front door :)

With many thanks to KN, I created a new soundset which has been uploaded to www.jp-80.com.

It has only 117 acoustic tones, each one within its own liveset - and categorised as well. An IMPORT will bring in the 117 livesets if you have remaining room.

A RESTORE will give you the 117 acoustic tone livesets - and will wipe everything else - so exercise caution if using this option. Make sure you backup your own sounds first!

Also some minor GUI enhancements to the site :) new font, new icons and new home page background image.
