Hot Swapping USB Memory Sticks

Has anyone ever had issues hot swapping memory sticks?

I've done it without issue (making sure nothing is being written to or from the memory stick of course) however the manual says you should power down to insert or remove. Anyone ever have a problem that might be attributed to a hot USB stick insert or removal?

That's interesting.... I have always avoided the risk but it all makes sense and I guess applies to any device/computer regarding removal of USB drive etc....

Might risk it now because power-down and up is annoying
