Back to D50 : The Lost patches
all we know the famous D50,I'm just plannig to buy
the samples from nicebeats but i just want to know
to avoid redundant samples
which differences between are with
D70 ,JP8000 and XP 80
and of course with ,with all the differences due to 20 years between them, our Fantom X6...
who is the one closer to the D50?
thanks
i've loved fantom and tritons then i've found my Oasys..i'm dead...i haven't money for the water...

Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
The Roland D-70 is the successor to the D-50. It was released about 2 years after the D-50 and includes 5 part multi-timbrel (plus a new rhythm section), more preset patches, more user patches, and a 4 MB ROM size (instead of the D-50's 1 MB). It could also transmit on 4 MIDI channels simultaneously (the D-50 could only transmit on 1 at a time).
The Roland JP-8000 is Roland's first significant digital analog modeling synth. I is not a LA (Linear Arithmetic) synth like the D-50 and D-70, nor is it a sample playback synth (like the XP-80). It is a completely different type of synth from D-50, D-70, and XP-80.
The XP-80 is a PCM ROM sample playback synthesizer (sometimes called ROMplers). It uses the Super JV synth engine like that found in the JV-1080. It draws it's synth architecture loosely from the LA synthesizers like the D-50 and D-70, but is significantly more powerful. It was Roland's flagship workstation for a number of years in the late 1990's and includes full 16 zone controller keyboard functions (16 MIDI channels simultaneously), built-in sequencer and floppy drive for patch and sequence storage, 320 x 80 pixel graphical LCD, 8 MB waveform ROM, and 4 SR-JV80 expansion board slots.

Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
nice
thanks nathan,so from what you specified to me
the most close to the D50..it's the XP 8O,isn't it?
by the way there a lot o'history behind our Fantom..
is this correct?
D50>D70>......>XP80>.....>XV5080>Fantom s>Fantom X.
By the way ,tell me if 'm wrongin',it is possible to recreate on our Fantom the D50 feeling. You know how?
for sure the XV5080...with the patch converter...
i just want to buy 4 collections from Nicebeats.de but from yesterday to today they are disappeared from their site,
they was..
SynthLine D50.Halion.dvd . $ 47.40
SynthLine XV5050.vol1.Mf. $ 47.40
SynthLine XV5080.vol52.Mf. $ 71.70
SynthLine JD800.Halion. $71.70
..i'm a little bit disappointed with them,to be clear now also the Halion and Kontakt libs are missing..maybe it's due to the Holidays time or to some kind of restiling...
just to make you know...and to save our money
ok
thanks

what about the JD800?
Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
maybe ....also
JP8000>JD800>JD900>....>V.SYNTH>V.SYNTH XT...
strange that misses an SRX CARD from Roland for our Fantom
collectin all the D50>...>XP 80 patches.....
it would be really useful...
it only exist the D50 card..for the V.synth....
strange....deviation...don't you think?
bye

Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
Hi Bisibuuu,
The "exact" replica of the D50 is contained on the V-Synth VC-1 card or in the V-synth XT rack. The joystick on the D50 really doesn't function as a "vector" modulator. It basically assists in editing.
The JD990 is the rack version of the JD800 with a few enhancements minus the keyboard and sliders. I have both the JD800 and 990 - really great underrated synths.
Cheers,
Eric

Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
I bought a big collection of sample discs directly from Synthline in Germany and their shipping was a hell of a lot cheaper than the seller on eBay! Synthline even included a 2 disc sample set gratis and when I discovered that I had a duplicate copy of one disc instead of another disc that was supposed to have been included, they promptly shipped the replacement disc at no charge to myself. By the way, buying the 30+ disc set meant that each disc only cost a little over 7.00 instead of the approximately 35.00 being asked for on eBay.
As far as the samples go, I was very particular in what I was looking for, mainly acoustic instruments, world-ethnic sounds, ambient pads...anything I thought useful that was different than the Fantom presets. After previewing half of the collection, I found almost a gig of material that I could use immediately. I have prepped everything in Sound Forge and should have time to finish importing what I need by month's end. Sometimes you wonder why they picked certain sounds over others but for the most part I am very pleased with this purchase. I have also discovered that by using a program called Chainer, I now can create multisamples from any VSTi source, which opens up a huge source of sample material! There's just not enough time, Yikes!!!

Re: Back to D50 : The Lost patches
No, the only Roland discs in the set I purchased were:
JP-8000
JV-2080
XP-80
JD-990
JP-8080
D-70
SC-880
The specific discs you refered to are probably more comprehensive, in that they are 2 discs each (if memory serves me right). Also, haven't the XV-5080 presets been ported over to the Fantom already (available from Roland and on Fantomized)?
