88 Key Keyboard Reccomendation

Post by scotttheencoder »

Folks:

What would be a good performance keyboard with 88 keys be?

I have a fantom-S 61 and a budget of 1200 right now.
I want a 88 key keyboard to take on the road simply to play at shows. The fantom will stay home most of the time.

My 2 contenders are the Yamaha s08 or the Kurz PC1X.

I don't need a sequencer and am not interested in a roland.
It seems wasteful to buy another keyboard with a sequencer when I have the fantom already. Otherwise I'd look at the 88 key motif or triton.

Should I maybe buy a motif rack and a 88 controller instead?

Any thoughts?

I would be willing to entertain a 76er, but only if the sounds are phenomenal. I tried the triton le 76 and was not very impressed. It was nice, but didn't give me any tingly feeling like our fantom or the Motif did.

If all you're looking for is a controller, you might consider a Doepfer:

This is nice because you're not paying for any extra sounds or fancy features, just a great quality 88 key controller (built into it's own flight case!)

Edit: ah just read your post again, I was assuming you'd be using the FS as your sound source -- still if you decide to get a rack module like a Motif rack then this would be a good companion.

Thanks Rich.

I'm going to wait a while and perhaps do the controller thing.

What about the Yamaha S90?

It has a motif sound set in it I believe. Sounds really good to me.
