I've been complaining about the Fantom G "pads" being unresponsive and musically bad to play on ever since I got the G.
Now I finally solved the problem:
Seems that Korg can somehow magically manufacture better pads for their 120€ product than Roland can for their 2300€ product. Strange.
Anyways.. I have played/owned/used seven different Akai MPCs over the years, MPC 2000/2000XL/60/1000.. and the Korg pads on this unit are far better than any of the Akais I ever used.
Well recommended as a sidekick for the Fantom G! You also get the X-Y pad...
Fantom G pad problem fixed!
Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
dang, can you take them both apart and swap out the rubber pads at all?
Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
i keep double posting. my notebook has FantomG pads...
Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
I also got a tip from a friend to place the padkontrol on a snare drum stand. I haven't got one yet, but they cost next to nothing and it sounds like a good tip.. just wanted to share. Might work on other equipment aswell.
Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
that stand would be awesome. i was looking at Roland's notebook stand but im sure it costs too much.
perhaps a sheet music stand might work too(?) just modify the top to your size.

Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
Sorry, but I had to move it to Other Gear.
Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
So now I have to repost this to the Fantom G forum with a new title called "Using the Fantom G with external pads"?

Re: Fantom G pad problem fixed!
Hey -- that is great. Maybe the next time that I buy a Roland keyboard, if I hate the sounds, I'll just buy a Korg and then say that I "upgraded" the Roland.
Actually, this wouldn't be the first time that someone has had to use both Roland and Korg products together. In all seriousness, I find that the sounds in each line of products are useful, but that neither substitutes for the other.

just learn how to play drums full stop and stop messing around with those little orange pads.
Drums are not hard to learn and then you can play acoustic/ electric or a combo. In fact I would say they are the easiest instrument to pick up and start playing basic rhythms with ----next to playing chords on a guitar. You can be up and running within a day.
And you can spend your 120 quid on some real percussion stuff or a drum module.
