What synthesizers do you own?
Re: What synthesizers do you own?
Joined the Clan a few weeks back but haven't posted yet, this seems like a good place to start.
Hardware
Roland JP-8000 - love it, recently repaired and using it more than ever
Roland Juno 106 - classic, warm and fun
Roland JV-1080 with Vintage Synth & Orchestral & Session cards - Good versatile, cards are great, still good today despite much more advanced things being available.
Yamaha DX7 - big a mistake when I bought it when I was a kid but some great unique sounds and I've ended up using it a lot, especially as a MIDI controller.
Yamaha TG33 - bought it when I was at uni in the 90s and still like it, is good fun despite its many limitations (no filterm 12 bit crunchy samples), you can get a lot out of it.
Roland D-70 - my favourite from early 90s, has some great sounds.
Previously Owned
JV880 - replaced by 1080. Used it a lot though, presets were average but some good ones and vintage synth card made it much better.
Software
Logic Pro - brilliant, EXS and EVP88 get the most work. Synths are OK. Mainstage is great for live work.
NI Reaktor - very versatile, can make anything you want if you have the time. People making new synths/instruments all the time.
NI New York Piano - Nice rich and detailed piano
NI FM8 - takes the DX7 a step further, great for new sounds
Atruria Moog Modular V - nails the moog modular sound, bass sequences are great with this
Arturia ARP 2600v - fat sounding good fun.
Arturia Jupter 8v - nails it but I don't use it as much as thought, prefer the JP8K.
Also used quite a few other things in studios along the way. such as U-220, R8m, MKS-80, MKS70, MKS20, TR808, TR909, S-760 etc.

Re: What synthesizers do you own?
@ Pianoknowguy
just asking... but what's the need for all the redundancy as far as the JV-1080 w/cards, JV-2080 w/same cards, XV-3080 w/same cards????!?!?!?!?!
also speaking of the 3080, you wouldn't happen to have any of those smart media cards laying around that you just WANT/NEED to get rid of do you?
Also as far as those XV synths.... how large or a card do you need if ALL you plan to save on it is the USER BANKS?
thanks

Re: What synthesizers do you own?
Hi Apex!
Actually, I only have two JV80 series expansion boards which are the same; the SR-JV80-01 Pop and the SR-JV80-10 Bass and Drum boards.
The Pop board came with a beautiful JV-1080 module I purchased from Kenchan. He also sold me the Bass and Drum board at a price I couldn't resist. With two JV-1080 modules, if I am low on polyphony on one, I can use the other. =)
Again, that is the only redundancy as far as expansion boards goes. I use only the internal memory of my modules as it makes it easier for me to write Instrument Definitions for Cakewalk's Sonar. Besides, I have access to somewhere in the neighborhood of 45,000 editable patches!! =)
Cheers!
