Player Piano

does anyone have an expirience refurbishing old upright player pianos from the 50's-60's. It still works perfectly and I have all the scrolls but it looks awful. Someone tried to lacker it and it's peeling off. It isn't worth much so I was hoping to do something fun and make it shiny black or red like elton johns. It this piano paint technique unattainable without a flash dryer?
