Re: Korg Kronos
You know, what impresses me the most is how they did this using a dual-core Atom. I tried to use a single-core Atom to run Ubuntu Studio and Rosegarden, and the fool thing got so flummoxed that I returned the board and stopped even trying to use Ubuntu anymore.
The engineers at Korg are pretty slick. I recall how the Triton Studio got a much beefier processor -- which, if I remember correctly, was like about 400 MHz or something pretty wimpy like that -- and that instrument always seemed really powerful to me.
At any rate, the point is that they certainly know what they're doing. And although I wouldn't call 27 pounds light weight, that is one heck of a lot lighter than most other workstations. I'm truly impressed.

That's exactly what I would say too. Roland also needs to determine whether it manufactures synthesizers or furniture. Not that I am against furniture... that piano bench is very good.

Furniture - and the fact that it is a La Z Boy says it all....

Some furnitures are always good to be there.
When you need a quick keyboard stand you can try this solution.

madAhorn, Roland is on the right path!!! If I had an armchair like this, I wouldn't give a sh** about the music!

@misuspita:
I read elsewhere here on RolandClan that they used a dual-core Atom, and then I looked it up on Google and a couple of other posts on different forums said the same thing. It's possible that they used something else. Whatever they did use, it's clearly able to handle whatever they threw at it. And since the videos that I've seen doesn't show, you know, like a rush of wind coming out from the case, they must have found something that is relatively quiet.
That suggests that they used a more power-efficient chip. My Dell, which has a quad-core, is ridiculously noisy. It's like @#$%@ LAGUARDIA in here...

On the subject of "a rush of wind coming from the case," Kronos does have a fan, according to this.

Re: Korg Kronos
Well I'll be having a listen. Hope it's not too "Korgy". I hated the M1 and 01/W, but they were a long time ago...
Re: Korg Kronos
I would never ever buy any musical instrument that has a fan. That would be a real bummer if Kronos has a fan...
Re: Korg Kronos
Well, I can say I was "prepared" but I was not "amazed" The Kronos sounds good... like so many other things do now. I can't see what else can be done to improved the "already sounding good synthesisers". All this has been taken up to a point where the "modelling" sounds better then the "originals". So I don't see why keep bringing it is a good thing. Still I personally don't like the "Korgish" sound character but that's just me. It looks more like a charged M3 then a downgraded Oasys, and that's a compliment from me. I'm more curious to see how the integration of the 9 engines will work and how the user interface is.
I find it weird how a fan is used there also because I see no ventilation exits from the pictures.

I was wrting about the Casio VZ and FZ synths, but I don't have enough information at my disposal to properly discuss this topic. I apologize -- I am one of the biggest proponents of having your facts straight -- so I deleted this post.
Thanks!

Okay -- you don't have to believe it -- you're still wrong:
(Atom D525, 1.8GHz dual-core, benchmark -- 718)
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Atom+D525...
and
(P4 2.8 GHz, single-core, benchmark -- 415)

SammyJames - I find it rather hard to believe, since they used in the Oasys a Pentium4 which is a much powerful CPU than an Atom
