Survey says what do famous bands play for electric keyboards
Survey says what do famous bands play for electric keyboards
Is it Roland for the most used keyboards on tours around the world.
I wonder which brand name is used the most and what bands are using them to get their special
sounds. You might name the songs aswell that they are used in too just for fun.

I pay attention to keyboards when watching Palladia. Well, I watch Palladia everyday.
I see Yamaha (Motif), Roland (Fantom) & Nord all the time. I occasionally see Kurz, Moog and Korg.

It was spam, videorov. It's a real problem, despite our best efforts to stay on top of it.

I have had that problem on a site I own.

I don't really understand the original post (where's the survey?), but I'm inclined to lean towards more Motifs, perhaps? Although it's pretty common to see for instance a hip hop act on Leno/Letterman/etc with the keyboard guys having both a Motif and a Fantom.
Surprisingly, you don't see that many KRONOS anywhere - perhaps it's a sign of its faltering quality issues. Gigging "weekend warriors" are also more inclined towards having a Nord, than high profile acts, IMO.
Here are a few current examples that spring to mind, although in most cases these are just simply sponsor deals:
- Greg Phillinganes and Herbie Hancock: both sponsored by Korg, so pretty much all Korgs...Hancock used to play an OASYS, now plays a Kronos (for electric keys). Phillinganes has a Triton and a Kronos, I think.
- James Poyser / The Roots (on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon): three Yamaha Motif XF's. They've had a few Fantom-Gs, though.
- Chick Corea: has been sponsored by Yamaha since the 80's, has a Yamaha CP1 stage piano and a Motif XF.
- Lady Gaga's keyboard guys play Roland.
- Beyoncé's band: all Roland (Fantom-G)
- Madonna's MD Kevin Antunes plays a Jupiter-80, at least

We used to play a lot of clubs and I lost count of how many people came up and said things like, 'Aren't a lot of piano players called Roland . . .'
Re: Survey says what do famous bands play for electric keybo
Paul McCartney's keyboardist Paul Wickens plays a Kurzweil and an original Motif 7
Within Temptation's keyboardist plays a Fantom X
Jordan Rudess has everything but has been using Kronos a LOT
Robbie Williams' band is predominantly Kronos
Pink Floyd used all Kurzweil on their Pulse tour
Pete Townsend is a Kurz aficionado
Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes plays Kurz
Pet Shop Boys: Kronos
Vangelis: Kronos
Spike Edney of Queen: Kronos
Variety is a GOOD thing.

Looking at some of the replies,I guess things have shifted in the keyboard world since this original thread,
I see more and more these days, keys players on stage or TV seem to utilise Nord Keyboards.

I know this is an old thread but I do know that Jordan Rudess swears by the Kronos and uses it on the Dream Theater band when he plays. I have one and in time I think they'll become more popular.
The Motif XF is a well known stage performer and I see that one is very popular amongst musicians on YouTube. Ultimately is a matter of taste and the determining factor is the sound you want to bring to the stage or studio.
Personally I think both are awesome.
