[i]"C931 and C932: both 10uF are the power supply decoupling for the +15v / -15v lines, that supply the analog section (Op Amps).

It is recommended to replace the capacitors after 5 years old because they become dry and consequently reduce the capacitance values. If the caps are on audio path, this will cause reduction on low frequency response, reduction on output volume or even no audio at all. I some cases it cause noises (hiss, cracks) on outputs. Other problem is when it enters in short circuit, in this case it will leak and corrode the pcb."[/

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has a part number or a cross referenced number that I can find. I'm trying to replace the caps on C931 and C932 but I can't seem to find anything in the 10uF 15v. I have seen several 16v but that makes me a bit uneasy. So if you can recommend a Brand (like Panasonic) and have a part number or even point me to a website that carries such caps i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks Cesarsound! Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the xp 50 circuitry. :o) Do you think it would be okay to replace C931 and c932 with 10 uf 16v radial caps? I have found only 10uf axial caps in 15v. Or does it have to be the smd type cap. Any suggestions? Thanks again for all you help.

hi there i saw in an earler post that you can use polyester caps can you also use tantalum caps of the same value as no caps have leaked on my xp50 i will just change them all and tantalum caps are easy to replace smd caps with and no prob with polarity thanks for all of your insite and continued help with this problem

This is such an amazing thread with so much information.
It seems that all of us are experiencing the same decline of the capacitors in our faithful XP-50's.

I had PM Ceasarsound but thought I would post again here.
My XP-50 has the same three problem areas:
LCD (I did the workaround) - AUDIO - Low Battery indicator even with battery replaced

I took it into a local shop and the only thing they did was replace the output jacks and said I needed to replace the mainboard for about $400.00

I have not been very good at keeping track of all of the things that needed to be done to correct these issues.
Would it be possible for those who have been successful in fixing their XP-50s to somehow give us a recipe on the steps and parts needed to do this ourselves or have a local tech do it? It might even be good to post this to a fresh topic thread so the information would not get buried and potentially lost.

I really love my XP-50. For some reason the sound is just punchier than some of the newer Roland Keyboards. I use a Roland Juno Di at the local church I am in but it just does not have the XP-50 punch if you know what I mean?

Thanks again for all of the help and look forward to getting my keyboard back in shape again.
Best Regards,
Simeon

Well, I have embarked on my repair journey.
I found the parts on Element 14.
The sound has just kept on deteriorating and my XP-50 would be very hard to replace as I really enjoy using the sounds live playing back my performance MIDI files.

Here's hoping for a great outcome!
Prayers and best wishes appreciated ;^)

Project update!
In waaaaay over my head!

I really knew I was in trouble when I buggered up one of the small ribbon connectors.
It was more of a friction type instead of a header and socket.
The UPS truck pulled up with my parts and i was very worried at what I was trying to do.

Trying to locate the parts and fiddling with magnifying glass, flashlight and soldering iron.
I knew I was in trouble. I buttoned the XP-50 back up and it still seemed to work.

I am going to try and see if the local shop would be willing to try and replace the capacitors or someone who would be willing to try. At this point I have nothing to lose as the sound is really getting bad so this would be my only hope of restoring things.

Very Best,
SImeon

Using my iPad NotesPlus and imported PDF of the service manual I was able to zoom in and find the locations of the parts and using a highlighter on the PDF mark it up to aid in the replacement of the questionable capacitors. IT was like playing a weird version of seek and find. I was surprised to find one of the capacitors was on the backside of the mainboard.

I have just enough knowledge of electronics, schematics and such to get me into trouble ;^)

The music repair shop was closed last week for vacation so I am hoping Monday to call to see if they are willing to take this on and to see how much it is going to cost to do this.

I will keep updating this thread.
I just wish I would have found this a couple of years ago when things were more active.

Best to all,
Simeon
(if you post in a forum and nobody is there to read it, does the post actually exist?)

Well my XP-50 is back at the repair shop. This time though the techs are armed with the knowledge you all have provided for me here. They also vetted the info with Roland which makes things a little more interesting.
I am looking forward to see and hear the results. Hoping for the best.

Very best regards,

I have a simple question: Where can I get a service manual with schematics for XP50 model?? My Keyboard has a distorted sound output. I replaced the battery and the programs are all there, but it sounds ugly. Thank you

Back from the brink!
Well I picked up my XP-50 yesterday and it just sounds fabulous!
LCD problem fixed!
Low Battery indicator fixed!

It was in really bad shape.
The shop replaced 25 capacitors and most of them had leaked out and had damaged traces that had to be repaired. They said they probably spent 10 hours working on this thing in replacing caps and troubleshooting.
The result is an almost brand new instrument!

Don't go this alone. it is well worth finding a shop that can do this unless you are extremely comfortable working with microscopic goggles ;^)

Without the info provided here I don't think I would have been able to point the guys in the right direction.
Thanks to everyone.
