XV5080 voltage rating

Post by soulidstate »

Hi, I recently got this module with a 117V rating indicated at the back. I am wondering if the module has an autoswitching PSU that will be able to work on 220V.

Do you guys have any experience with this?

Thanks

I don't believe that the PSU is autoswitching, but I'll check the service notes later.

What it likely has is a universal transformer, in which case modification is pretty simple. I ended up switching a JD-990 from 100V to 120V, as shown:

I actually checked the power boards inside but unfortunately there is no universal transformer just like the one in your picture. The reason as to why I wondered if it's autoswitching is because I found the components in the power board like fuse and capacitor are rated 220V.

Thanks for the reply Clouds.

I checked the service notes, and you're right; the XV-5080 does appear to have a switching transformer.

I'm not sure why the back of the unit states just 117V though, so you might want to double-check with Roland, just to be safe.

I actually sent Roland support a note about this. They said its not autoswitching and I will need to step down the voltage if I wish to plug it to 220V.

Thanks for the response Clouds.

i am in asimilar situation. I am looking for a XV 5080 to buy here in the US and take it with me to Europe where they use the 220/240 voltage ratings.

What exactly did you do or do I have to do to use this in europe without damaging the unit?

thx

I just plug it in a voltage converter to make it 110V
